Thailand dominated ball possession during the majority of the Group G opener at Thammasat Stadium. However, the Golden Dragons fought bravely to keep a clean sheet until the last whistle. Park’s troops even created a number of clear-cut opportunities but failed to convert any of them.

“Vietnam underwent a difficult match. Thailand are a strong team, while we had to play away. We very nearly conceded goals but also had some opportunities to decide the match. Unfortunately, my players could not take advantage of them,” the Republic of Korean tactician told reporters.

“After such a tough game, as the head coach, I would like to say thanks to the players for great efforts. They fought to the best of their ability,” he stated.

During the press conference, Park elaborated on his starting list for the Thailand clash. Regarding midfielder Tuan Anh, who made concerted efforts throughout the 90 minutes, he affirmed: “Tuan Anh is an amazing player. That’s why he made the starting XI”.

The Vietnamese team are set to return home today. The players will come back to their clubs for the V.League campaign, while head coach Park, his assistants and forward Nguyen Tien Linh will take a flight to China to join Vietnam U22s’ training camp in Wuhan, in preparation for the September 8 friendly match against China U22s./.
