Towards a green, clean and sustainable industrial production

Long An is implementing the goal of developing high-tech, environmentally friendly industries while eliminating the planning of industries with pollution risks in existing industrial zones, clusters.

The priority to attracting high-tech projects

Currently, the trend of globalization, green growth and sustainable development have become important factors in the strategic planning of the Government, localities and enterprises. Vietnam's commitment to net zero emissions by 2050 poses a big challenge for businesses, forced them to meet many new standards when participating in trade agreements.

However, this is an important opportunity for businesses to transform and develop towards a green, clean and sustainable industry. In which, the leading role of industrial zones in orienting and developing towards greening is remarkable. This is also an inevitable direction, ensuring sustainable and long-term growth goals for enterprises operating in industrial zones, thereby, making positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the province in particular and the country in general when implementing new free trade agreements.

In fact, the construction of infrastructure and the development of green industrial zones are also the basis for attracting green and quality FDI flows to Vietnam, selecting industrial production projects applying advanced technology while protecting the environment. Since then, we can improve the quality of domestic industrial production to be on par with the world.

Production of electronic components and equipment is one of the priority sectors in attracting investment

Long Hau Industrial Park is one of the industrial zones in the province pursuing the goal of sustainable development. Right from the planning stage, Long Hau Industrial Park spent 33% of the land fund for trees, traffic, social utility infrastructure to serve employees such as accommodation, supermarkets, restaurants, sports areas, clinics, etc, creating a safe and stable living and working environment. At the same time, Long Hau Industrial Park invested and put into use a centralized wastewater treatment plant with a designed capacity of 5,000m3/day, night; investing in solid waste transfer station, industrial exhaust gas treatment with the best performance and achieve ISO 14001:2004 certificate on environmental management. Regarding investment promotion, Long Hau Industrial Park always prioritizes clean industrial projects.

According to Business Marketing Director of Long Hau Joint Stock Company - Bui Le Anh Hieu, the development of green industrial zones and the application of new types of energy poses many challenges for businesses. They encountered many difficulties in applying new types of energy, policies and procedures for investment, installation and operation of the system. In order to reduce difficulties for businesses, Long Hau Industrial Park supports enterprises in design consultancy, investment licensing, and building factories according to the green building model; the implementation of clean energy development projects.

Specifically, at Long Hau Industrial Park, many businesses have installed rooftop solar power systems on factories, helping to proactively source clean energy for production activities, save operating costs, and maximize economic benefits and create a competitive advantage in export. One of the typical enterprises that achieved LEED green building certification from USA at Long Hau Industrial Park is German Garment Factory DBW, which has also deployed and effectively used the rooftop solar energy system.

Recently, Coca-Cola Vietnam Beverage Co., Ltd. started construction of a beverage factory in Phu An Thanh Industrial Park, Ben Luc District. This is Coca-Cola's 4th beverage factory in Vietnam, designed and built with the goals of improving productivity, optimizing resources in production, and applying smart factory model and modern technology. With this project, Coca-Cola designed to minimize the impact on the environment, save electricity, water, and materials through the use of solar energy and biomass fuel as an alternative to fossil fuels.

This project is developed in accordance with the sustainable development goals of the province; at the same time, contributing to the realization of Vietnam's commitments to reduce net emissions to zero by 2050. According to a representative of Coca-Cola, with the goal of "Innovating the world and making differences", Coca-Cola has implemented many sustainable development projects during its nearly 30-year journey in Vietnam. The new factory in Long An is one of Coca-Cola's key projects to further affirm its commitment to sustainable economic development with Vietnam.

For the sake of protecting the environment

The province has a total area planned for industrial development of 15,000 hectares, with 59 industrial zones and 37 approved industrial zones. Currently, there are 22 industrial zones and 22 industrial zones operating, with a total area of about 4,000 hectares. Most industrial zones and clusters are planned to receive multi-sectors, including industries with risks of environmental pollution such as textiles, dyeing, plant protection drugs, leather tanning, iron and steel production from scrap, waste treatment, etc. Information from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, in order to realize the goal of developing high-tech, environmentally friendly industries, the province orients not to supplement the planning of industries with the risk of polluting existing industrial zones and clusters. For projects in the textile, dyeing, washing and bleaching industry, manufacturing iron and steel, non-ferrous metals from scrap, when they want to expand and increase the scale of production activities, in addition to having to conform to the detailed planning and subdivision the function of  industrial zones and clusters, they must also ensure that the production technology level is advanced with 100% new machinery and equipments.

Production of electronic components and equipment is one of the priority sectors in attracting investment

With outstanding advantages in geographical location, support from the Government, central ministries and branches, with a strategic and consistent vision on renewing the economic growth model, the province has cooperated with many world's leading consulting groups to develop strategic plans, thereby, creating a solid foundation for outstanding socio-economic development, associated with the development goals of the 2021-2025 period, which will help the province make a breakthrough for rapid and sustainable development.

The province strives to continuosly maintaining its leading position in the Mekong Delta by 2025; rising to become a province with a well-developed industry and urban area by 2030. In the process of economic development, the province is determined not to attract or accept investment projects that have the potential to affect the environment. With a complete and safe infrastructure system of industrial zones and clusters to meet the diverse and strict needs of investors, the province prioritizes attracting investment in the following fields: supporting industry, manufacturing, automation, component production - electronic equipment and software, microchips, semiconductor industry, artificial intelligence; urban development with high-quality services, seaport services, logistics services, economic and trade promotion, organic ecological agriculture, high-tech agricultural model combine with eco-tourism, renewable energy according to international standards./.
