11th General Assembly of TPO - Awakening Long An tourism potential

On September 13, in Jeonju City, Jeollabul Province, Korea, the opening session of the 11th General Assembly of Asia-Pacific Cities Tourism Promotion Organization (TPO) took place, chaired by TPO Co-Chairman, Mayor of Jeonju City - Mr. Woo Beom-ki and TPO Secretary General - Mr. Woo Kyoung-ha.

On Long An province's side, attending the meeting were Member of Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Committee - Hoang Dinh Can; Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee - Pham Tan Hoa and representatives of relevant departments and branches.

Vietnam has 8 provinces and cities that are members of the Asia-Pacific Cities Tourism Promotion Organization, including Long An province.

With the theme "Tourism is the driving force of local economic growth", this congress is an opportunity to further strengthen the network among TPO members to enhance cooperation and promote an encouraging environment to exchange information, expertise and practice in the tourism sector.

At the same time, this is an opportunity for members to commit to solving and overcome the challenges they face due to the Covid-19 epidemic and climate change, and unite to contribute viable solutions to maximize the benefits of tourism for its members.

The TPO organization was established in 2002, is a network of tourist cities in the Asia-Pacific region, a center for promotion, information and communication between member cities in the organization.

To date, the unit has 132 members, coming from many countries and territories: Vietnam, Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, Philippines, Thailand and Taiwan (China), etc.

Vietnam alone has 8 provinces and cities as members including: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Bac Ninh, Vung Tau City (Ba Ria-Vung Tau province), Da Lat City (Lam Dong province) and Long An.

At the discussion sessions, TPO members shared about green tourism development and local tourism recovery after the Covid-19 epidemic; the strengths of each locality to promote and cooperate in tourism; tourism development activities in the 4.0 era; difficulties and challenges to develop green, sustainable tourism and create more products to attract tourists; etc.

With over 125 historical and cultural relics and traditional festivals throughout the area, stretching along the Vam Co Dong and Vam Co Tay rivers, Long An province has a lot of potential to develop tourism. In particular, the province focuses on developing health tourism, golf tourism, agricultural experience tourism, entertainment tourism, cultural - historical tourism, research tourism, and tourism combining with events, seminars, etc.

With existing potentials and advantages, this TPO General Assembly will be a great opportunity to help Long An introduce and promote local culture, cuisine and tourism to all TPO members and local businesses in the community with the desire to call for investment cooperation based on suitability and existing strengths to awaken the tourism industry in the coming time"./.
