Announcement of Decision to establish Long An Medical College

On September 28, the People's Committee of Long An province held a ceremony to announce the Decision of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to establish Long An Medical College.

The ceremony has the attendance of Deputy Secretary of the Party Civil Affairs Committee, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs - Le Tan Dung. On the side of Long An province, there were Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - Mai Van Nhieu and leaders of the Provincial Party Committee's Party Building Committees; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Tan Hoa; former leaders of the province through the periods; representatives of Department of Health of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City and leaders of provincial and district departments, branches and sectors.

After more than 45 years of establishment and development (since 1979), the school has trained 29 medical courses, 26 intermediate nursing courses, 23 intermediate midwifery courses, 10 regular and part-time intermediate pharmacist courses, 43 elementary pharmacy courses.

Accordingly, nearly 14,000 students have graduated, serving medical facilities from the provincial to commune health stations in and outside the province. In recent times, not only providing intermediate and elementary medical human resources, the school has also coordinated with the Department of Health to train specialized classes I, contributing to improving the quality of medical staff for the province and some neighboring provinces, including Cambodia's province.

In response to the requirement to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment for people in the province and the Mekong Delta region; implementing Resolution 05-NQ/DH, dated October 16, 2020 of the 11th Congress of Long An Provincial Party Committee, term 2020 - 2025, Long An Medical College was officially established on January 25, 2024.

Immediately after the decision to establish, the school cooperated with Tra Vinh University to train majors in the medical field related to 3 joint training groups including short-term training, undergraduate and postgraduate training. In addition to training a number of regular majors, the school also opened many joint training classes for managers in the health sector from the provincial, district and commune levels.

Along with that, the school has signed internship contracts for students with Long An General Hospital and Van An General Hospital, promising to bring many opportunities to strengthen ties, create new cooperation opportunities and together contribute to the development of human resources in the health sector, improving the quality of health care for people and the socio-economic development of the province.

Deputy Secretary of the Party Civil Affairs Committee, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs - Le Tan Dung acknowledged and commended the results that the College has achieved.

He suggested that, in addition to the direction of the leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee and the provincial departments, branches and sectors, the Board of Directors together with the school's staff, lecturers and employees must unite, constantly innovate, create, promote collective strength to complete assigned tasks; students must be serious and disciplined in their studies. The school needs to modernize appropriate training facilities and equipment; build a green, smart and modern school; constantly innovate training programs and methods; promote digital transformation in all school activities.

In addition, the school needs to promote scientific research and technology transfer; career guidance, entrepreneurship and innovation in the healthcare sector; proactively expand and improve the effectiveness of cooperation with domestic and foreign vocational training institutions.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Tan Hoa affirmed: "The establishment of Long An Medical College is not only an honor and pride for the staff, teachers and students of the school, but also a joy and excitement for the leaders and people of the province. I request that the Party committees, authorities, departments, branches and sectors of the province pay attention to leading, directing and creating the best conditions to build the school into a prestigious training facility for human resources in the health sector of the province and the Mekong Delta region. The Department of Health needs to proactively coordinate in developing the school's development strategy in each specific stage according to the set plan"./.
