COVID-19 provides momentum for Indonesia’ structural reform: Minister

Speaking at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting on Structural Reform on June 16, Airlangga stated that the Indonesian Government has also committed to supporting the four pillars of structural reform for the next five years, including creating a supportive environment for an open, transparent and competitive market, improving business recovery and resilience to future shocks, ensuring that all groups in society have equal access to opportunities for more inclusive, sustainable growth and greater well-being, and leveraging innovation, new technologies, and skills development to drive productivity and digitalization.

Indonesia will prioritise environmentally friendly economic development such as hydro power, solar panels, geothermal energy and 30 percent biodiesel (B30).

The government is committed to reducing gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030 by prioritising low-carbon development as the essence of the national development plan.

It also applies the principle of considering a circular economy as part of a sustainable economy by committing to reducing household waste by 30 percent and ocean plastic waste by 70 percent by 2025, he added./.
