Seminar discusses improving quality of Vietnamese universities

At the event

The event, chaired by the Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha, with the participation of 24 prestigious higher education institutions including national universities, regional universities and several other universities, aims to seek solutions to improve the quality and affirm the prestige and brand names of Vietnamese universities in the region and throughout the world.

According to the participations at the workshop, Vietnamese universities have not invested in line with the potential of the universities. The Vietnamese Government is also working to create an advanced development environment for the higher education system.

The main speaker at the workshop, Mandy Mok, the Managing Director QS for the Asia Pacific and Middle East Region, said that the ranking of the universities becoming more widely known is an important indicator in international competition. There are currently 16 internationally recognised rankings, of which the QS (2004), THE and ARWU (2003) rankings are of great interest and are suitable for Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Minister Nha emphasized that the quality of higher education and international prestige are two of the important factors that affect the existence and development of universities. Both of these factors are agglomerated and expressed through the university's brand, he added.

He said that the participation in international rankings aims to improve the quality of Vietnams’ universities.

Through the event, the MOET began a network of key Vietnamese universities aimed at ensuring quality, building brands, and connecting universities, as well as affirming the prestige and quality of Vietnamese universities for the global and regional education market./.
