Among attendants were Tong Thi Phong, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the NA and head of the APPF-26 organising committee; Nguyen Van Giau, Chairman of the NA’s External Relations Committee; and Nguyen Hanh Phuc, Secretary General of the NA and Chairman of the NA Office.
The subcommittees on reception, logistics, information, communication and healthcare reported to the top legislator on the progress of preparations for the APPF-26. Accordingly, preparations have basically been completed in accordance with the requirements of the organising committee, aiming to ensure thoughtful and respectful welcome for participating delegations.
Vietnamese agencies have finalised six draft resolutions of the APPF-26, in regards to the role of APPF in promoting partnerships for sustainable development and inclusive growth in the Asia-Pacific region; the facilitation of cultural and tourism cooperation in the region; the enhancement of joint efforts to respond to climate change; food security and sustainable agricultural development; the role of parliaments in promoting extensive and comprehensive economic links; and the facilitation of parliamentary diplomacy on peace, security and prosperity in the region and around the world.
Addressing the meeting, NA Chairwoman Ngan, Chair of the APPF for the 2017-2018 tenure, spoke highly of the efforts of the relevant agencies in making preparations for the APPF-26, which is scheduled to take place in Hanoi from January 18 to 21.
She emphasised the significant meaning of the APPF-26, stating that with the theme of “Parliamentary Partnership for Peace, Innovation and Sustainable Development”, the conference is a practical action of the APPF’s member parliaments and parliamentarians in support of the Da Nang Declaration on “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future”, which was adopted at the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
During the four-day meeting, the parliamentarians will discuss economic and cultural cooperation and regional development, for peace, security, prosperity, as well as sustainable and inclusive development, towards the adoption of a joint communiqué.
The NA leader highly appreciated functional agencies’ finalising the six draft resolutions that Vietnam proposes to the APPF-26, stating that these recommendations continue to affirm Vietnam’s active and proactive contributions to the forum.
She asked the subcommittees to continue reviewing and promptly completing all the preparations for such an important meeting.
