Earthquakes rattle parts of Southeast Asia

A 4.9-magnitude quake struck near Kengpoun village in Viengxay district, Houaphanh province, at 23:26 on November 12. The epicentre, located close to the border with Vietnam, was about 10 kilometers deep. No significant damage or widespread impact has been reported so far.

Several earthquakes have been recorded across Southeast Asia over the past two days.

According to the Lao National Earthquake Data Centre, a 4.9-magnitude quake struck near Kengpoun village in Viengxay district, Houaphanh province, at 23:26 on November 12. The epicentre, located close to the border with Vietnam, was about 10 kilometers deep. No significant damage or widespread impact has been reported so far.

Lao authorities have urged residents, local administrations, and organisations to remain alert for possible aftershocks or related geological activity. The public is advised to follow official updates from the Lao Meteorology and Hydrology Department and relevant agencies to stay informed and prepared.

In neighbouring Myanmar, two earthquakes were also reported between the morning of November 12 and early November 13./.
