Long An has 253 agricultural cooperatives

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, up to now, Long An province has 253 agricultural cooperatives, with a total registered charter capital of over 209.9 billion VND. This shows the strong development of collective economic models.

Accordingly, agricultural cooperatives in the province operate in a variety of fields such as cultivation, livestock, aquaculture and general. Of which, cultivation cooperatives account for the largest proportion with 162 cooperatives. However, the assessment and classification results in 2023 show that the operational efficiency of cooperatives is still uneven, with only 27 cooperatives classified as good, accounting for 16.5% of the total number of cooperatives evaluated.

However, the revenue and profit of agricultural cooperatives tend to grow. On average, each cooperative has a profit of about 179 million VND. In addition to agricultural cooperatives, the province also has 5 agricultural cooperative unions and 1,256 cooperative groups. These organizations play an important role in linking production, consumption, and improving the competitiveness of agricultural products.

In addition to the achieved results, agricultural cooperatives in the province still face many difficulties and challenges such as the majority of agricultural cooperatives are small-scale, with limited production capacity; access to loans for investment in production development is still difficult; some agricultural cooperatives lack experience in management, leading to low operational efficiency; finding stable consumption markets for products is difficult.

To overcome the above difficulties and improve the operational efficiency of agricultural cooperatives, all levels and sectors need to strengthen preferential loan support policies for agricultural cooperatives; organize training courses on production techniques and business management for staff and members; encourage agricultural cooperatives to link with each other and with enterprises to form value chains, increase product value; support agricultural cooperatives to build and promote product brands.

Agricultural cooperatives have been playing an important role in the agricultural development of the province. However, to fully exploit the potential, there needs to be investment attention and support from all levels of government as well as efforts from those cooperatives./.
