Long An Trade Union: Workers supported to overcome Covid-19 pandemic

Concentrating resources and empowering workers

More than 2 months of implementing social distancing measures in Long An province according to Directive No. 16/CT-TTg, dated March 31, 2020 of the PM. The whole province of Long An has more than 160,000 workers who are temporarily unemployed due to the temporary suspension of operations by enterprises, currently staying in inns in localities in the province, 50,000 employees are working at 543 enterprises implementing the "3-on-site" measure.

In fact, workers in the hostels are facing many difficulties, the accumulated and saved money is dwindling, not enough to cover daily expenses. Workers in "3-on-site" enterprises also struggled with the requirements of on-site production, on-site eating and on-site rest. Although there are many support resources from organizations and individuals, it is still not possible to meet all the minimum needs of employees. Understanding these difficulties and shortages, the Trade Union at all levels promptly supported, encouraged and helped workers to overcome.

Following the direction of the Vietnam General Labor Confederation and the Long An Party Committee, the Provincial Trade Union has always stood by the workers' side, actively mobilizing many resources, including the main and most timely resource from the finance of all-level trade unions and the Golden Heart Fund of Long An Trade Union. The Provincial Labor Confederation promptly deployed support packages to help employees alleviate some of their difficulties, such as "Free trips for coming back home - gifts for connecting affection" giving 175,000 gifts at the inns, "Program supporting the 3-on-site workers” awarded more than 25,000 gifts to support meals for union members and employees, the program "Giving milk with love - Warming trade union affection" awarded 6,000 gifts to employees' children aged 0 to 3 years old and 1,200 gifts for pregnant workers currently living in inns in the province, etc.

On the other hand, the Trade Union organized to visit and support 2,957 cases of employees being F0, F1, F2 and cases of workers dying from Covid-19. In addition, the Provincial Labor Confederation also received and distributed 12,100 gifts from the grassroots trade union of Pouyuen Vietnam Co., Ltd., HCM City supports employees working at the company who are currently staying in localities in the province during the social distancing period.

As of September 10, 2021, in addition to the support of organizations, individuals, and trade unions at all levels who used the trade union's financial resources, the Golden Heart Fund of Long An Trade Union has timely supported difficult workers due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic with a total amount of over 30 billion VND, of which the financial source from the Provincial Labor Confederation is nearly 20 billion VND, thereby contributing to reducing difficulties for employees during the social distancing period.

Trade union officials "race" with the time

The time to implement the social distancing is the days when workers need to share and support gifts to cover their lives. While the union staff is very small, a part has to work from home according to the requirements of social distancing.

Therefore, in order to deal with a large volume of work in an urgent context, with thousands of gifts to support workers, disbursing large amounts of money from the union budget is a great effort, requiring a great deal of spirit and very high responsibility. Trade union officials have to work day and night, including weekends and holidays through quick response teams, hotlines, etc.

Currently, although the situation of the Covid-19 epidemic in the province has been basically controlled, there are still complicated and unpredictable developments, especially in the "orange zones" and "yellow zones".

In the spirit of not leaving anyone behind, especially employees, the all-level Trade Unions will continue to stand side by side and accompany workers to overcome all difficulties, contributing to all levels, sectors and industries in the coming time. The people in the province will soon repel the epidemic, restore and develop production, stabilize and improve the people's life in general and workers in particular./.
