Students taught soft skills through union’s activities
For years, the Youth Communist unions and other unions in the Mekong delta province of Long An have organized various activities to attract more students.
In addition to knowledge provided in schools, students have to have soft skills to deal with situations in life
Teachers find it hard to teach soft skills for students because they have to transmit a huge amount of knowledge in class. Accordingly, activities organized by the Youth Communist Union and other unions in schools that young people will need if they get success throughout their lives. These unions in Long An have undertaken extra-activities to teach students soft skills for many years.
Young generations especially students must both hard study and join activities to meet the requirements of the development trend. Therefore, in addition to knowledge provided in schools, students have to have soft skills to deal with situations in life. In a bid to train them to be people with good physical growth and talent.
The skill club of Industry Economy University
Set up in 2015, the skill club of Industry Economy University has become a useful and healthful playground for students helping provide them with soft skills; hence, they become more confident in studying and life. Student Dang Thi Thuy Tram from the Business Management Department said thanks to participating in the club’s activities, she was trained self-discipline, solidarity and confidence in dealing with others; these virtues would help me have good start for future employment.
With the aim to help students develop both physical and spiritual growth, last year, the university’s Youth Communist Union held a festival themed “Healthy students”. The school increased information of benefit of physical exercise to keep fitness for better academic performance in schools.
Party secretary teacher Nguyen Thi Bao Chau said that the school managers expected to offer healthful playground for students through activities which they can exchange hobbies and interest. Moreover, physical exercise helps improve students’ awareness of taking a sport to have good physical body and then take title of exemplary students.

School not merely held extra-activities but also movement to push up studying such as competitions, establishing English speaking club in order to help students consolidate and improve their knowledge. Student Than Thanh Trung of the Pedagogy School said that taking part in team work and extra-curricular activities is essential for a student because students can practice skills for academic performance and in life.
Student Trung is famous for good academic performance but he is an active member of youth communist union of the school. In two years, he actively took part in all union’s activities. His efforts had been awarded when he is only student who was awarded prize “ Sao Thang Gieng” ( January Star) presented by the Student Association of Vietnam. The prize is most prestigious one for youth communist union member with best achievement in studying and in activities.
Schools in Long An implemented youth program amongst students
Furthermore, under the school’s Party board and management board, the unions in coordination with teaching staffs provide education of ethics and healthy lifestyle for students in various forms; for instance, the program “Ve nguon” ( Return to the source) by visiting local historic and cultural monuments, martyr cemetery and presenting gifts to social welfare brackets and Vietnamese Heroic Mothers. Through joining in these above-mentioned activities, students deeply perceive about the nation’s tradition and are proud of the country, said Tan Tru Senior High School’s Party Secretary teacher Vo Ngoc Thuy.
Besides, schools in Long An implemented youth program amongst students such as collect waste, tidying up school and class’s premises to cultivate in student the awareness of keeping environment hygiene. Especially, these unions enhance learning and following Uncle’s thought, ethics and lifestyle through stories which students will learn their own lessons to practice every day.

Eighth grader Nguy Hoang Bao Tram of Junior High School Nguyen Trung Truc in Thanh Phu Commune who won the second prize of the competition to tell stories of Uncle Ho said that she learns and follow Uncle Ho through simple things in daily life such as thrifty practices, elimination of retrograde habits, sensitivity towards others’ hardship and hard work. She continued that in schools, she listens to teachers and assist her friends while at homes, she loves and helps her parents to do house chores.
In the effort to create an ideal environment for students to devote and contribute to voluntary activities for the community, schools launched programs namely Tiep suc mua thi” (University entrance exam support), “Mua he xanh” (Green Summer), “Thu bay tinh nguyen” (Voluntary Saturday), “Ngay chu nhat xanh“ (Green Sunday), “Hien mau nhan dao” (Humanitarian blood donation). Annually, hundreds of meaningful programs are carried out in the province with thousands of gifts given to students from low-income families, disadvantaged families. These extra-curricular activities have partly improved students’ sense of responsibility towards their families and the society.
In general, social activities organized by schools not only develop students’ dynamics and creativeness but also help to increase education quality./.
