Attracting investment in sustainable agriculture

That is the topic of Vietnam Agricultural Development Forum 2023, organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in collaboration with the Business Forum Magazine and the People's Committee of Long An Province on the afternoon of June 28.

VCCI Chairman - Pham Tan Cong informed that statistics from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development show that there are currently over 50,000 enterprises investing in agriculture, a very modest number compared to the total number of over 900,000 enterprises in the country. This shows attracting businesses to invest in Agriculture is still a problem that needs to be solved in many localities. In the current context, in order to achieve the goals of Agriculture sector in the coming period, “Develop smart agriculture, integrate internationally, adapt to climate change, increase added value and develop sustainable development to build prosperous and civilized new countryside with rich farmers” requires more participation of enterprises.

He said that although Agriculture is an industry facing many risks and difficulties, with thin and precarious profits, they can promote the country's outstanding strengths. Therefore, the opportunity to succeed is also great and more specifically, creating livelihoods, increase incomes for farmers, and contribute to building a modern, prosperous, happy, democratic and civilized countryside. Investing in agriculture and rural areas is a way for entrepreneurs to contribute to the aspiration to turn our country into a developed, prosperous, civilized and happy country. This is also the mission of Vietnamese entrepreneurs in the current period.

Speaking at the forum, Chairman of Long An People's Committee - Nguyen Van Ut emphasized that this forum is an opportunity to strengthen linkages between investors and businesses to explore opportunities and investment cooperation in the field of agriculture. towards ecological agriculture, regenerative agriculture, sustainable green agriculture and strongly promoting the development of the agricultural product processing industry in the direction of applying high technology, digital transformation, combining agricultural development with tourism. He recommended that superiors continue to pay attention to direct, help and create conditions for the development of the Agriculture sector of Long An province in particular and the Mekong Delta in general in the coming time.

Particularly in Long An, the province will focus on directing strongly, drastically and synchronously with solutions to effectively implement the High-tech Agricultural Development Program in association with the restructuring of the agricultural sector, creating a new breakthrough in agricultural production of the province, contributing to step by step standardizing the raw material area, forming value chains in the production, processing and consumption of clean and safe agricultural products to better meet market requirements. The province's agricultural sector has experienced outstanding growth, many key products such as bananas, lemons, dragon fruit, rice,etc are exported to markets such as the US, Australia, Europe, and South Korea. Japanese, Chinese,etc.

At the forum, delegates shared about orientations for sustainable agricultural development and policies to attract investment in the agriculture industry, orientations for agricultural economic development, policies to encourage enterprises to invest in agriculture, emphasizing the attraction of enterprises to invest in agricultural development in the Mekong Delta and the mechanism to promote cooperation in investment and consumption of agricultural products between Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces and cities in Mekong Delta region.

At the same time, the forum also discussed solutions to attract businesses in sustainable agricultural value chains, with a focus on solutions to enhance the value of agricultural products to enter sustainable export markets, taking advantage of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs); mechanism to encourage the application of high technology in production, harvesting and processing; logistics infrastructure for agricultural value chains; proposals and recommendations to remove difficulties in attracting investment in agriculture, building a sustainable agricultural ecosystem, linking the state with investors, farmers, banks, scientists and distributors in research, application, and bringing products to market;etc./.
