E-commerce - New direction for agricultural product consumption
Over the past time, the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic has prompted businesses, cooperatives and production facilities to look for new methods in promoting and consuming products besides traditional ways. E-commerce is considered as one of the right directions, suitable for practical conditions.
E-commerce floor interface of Long An province
Confidently approach new methods
In Long An, the information technology infrastructure in general and the e-commerce infrastructure in particular has changed significantly. Many enterprises, cooperatives, and production facilities have actively innovated, invested and applied information technology; sought product consumption markets in order to reduce marketing and transaction costs. Besides creating websites for marketing, sales support and market search, the enterprises have flexibly applied digital applications to put many products and goods on e-commerce floors such as Sendo, Voso, Postmart, etc.
After many times attending training sessions on promoting goods on the electronic trading floors of the Department of Industry and Trade, the owner of Quang Vinh Honey Facility - Bui Minh Quang (Thanh Hoa town, Thanh Hoa district) was able to sell products on e-commerce sites with beautiful images, complete and clear information. To do this, Mr. Quang has studied hard and practiced regularly.
Mr. Quang said: “Currently, online shopping has gradually become a trend. Some establishments have approached and effectively exploited e-commerce, so I also learned to increase competitiveness in the market. Currently, although the number of products sold is not much, there are initial positive signals. Many customers from far away have known and ordered our products".
Efforts to bring all products of Vuon Nha Minh Company to the e-commerce platform soon
Similarly, Mr. Pham Ngoc Anh Tuan (Director of Vuon Nha Minh Co., Ltd., Tan Binh commune, Tan Tru district) said: “Business activities in the epidemic situation face many difficulties, especially in promoting products. Thanks to e-commerce, the consumption of products has improved. In the coming time, I hope the authorities will continue to support to put all the company's products on the e-commerce floor. At present, we are researching and applying sales, delivery and design policies in accordance with product characteristics.”
Putting products on the e-commerce floor has great benefits, but each establishment also needs its own method to suit the product situation. According to Director of Hoang Anh Agricultural Production and Trade Cooperative (Tan Thanh district) - Pham Hoang Giang, the main product of the cooperative is the jackfruit and the sliced jackfruit. In particular, jackfruit pieces are difficult to transport long distances. Therefore, the cooperative continues to strengthen and expand the traditional distribution channel to create a denser network in the provinces and cities. On the other hand, the cooperative will flexibly handle orders from e-commerce sites, connect with agents to bring products to customers quickly and ensure quality.
Need support to be effective
Currently, the businesses in the province participate in e-commerce platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, Sendo, Tiki, Voso, Postmart, etc. Some businesses join international e-commerce platforms such as Alibaba, Amazon. At provincial level, there is an e-commerce floor of Long An province. However, the e-commerce floor of Long An province mainly supports the promotion of enterprises' products, but has not yet performed transactions. Currently, there are 478 products of 180 units displayed on the e-commerce floor of Long An province.
Besides the e-commerce floor of the province, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also has a floor for trading and traceability for safe agricultural products. Organizations, individuals and business households can register, record electronic logs associated with traceability, set up QR codes by themselves and put their products on the trading floor to reach buyers. In addition, there is information about the raw material area associated with geographical access so that businesses can contact and cooperate more easily.

According to enterprises, cooperatives, and production facilities, participation in e-commerce floors has not been highly effective, sales volume is still low. Most businesses still have difficulty operating booths, taking videos and photos of the products to post on the floor, customer care and advertising costs. However, in the coming time, enterprises, cooperatives, and production facilities will continue to participate in e-commerce floors because businesses can bring products to consumers easily and quickly.
Besides the initiative of enterprises, cooperatives, and production facilities, departments, branches and local authorities have also implemented many activities to support units to put their products on the e-commerce floor. Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade - Chau Thi Le said that the Department will coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Information and Communications to continue to put all key and OCOP products of the province on the e-commerce floor. Currently, specialized units are synthesizing the needs of facilities to propose support in the coming time.
In the past time, the Department of Industry and Trade has implemented many programs to support enterprises participating in e-commerce platforms such as connecting consumption of watermelon (Tai Loc Company), jackfruit (Hoang Anh Cooperative), dragon fruit (Dragon fruit Association) to consume on Tiki; collaborating with Postmart to put 174 products of the province on the floor with 30 suppliers, including 5 OCOP units. In March 2022, the Department will focus on coordinating cooperatives, enterprises, and agricultural production households to put all OCOP products on the e-commerce floor; introduce the Provincial Post Office to support 10 businesses to promote and identify their brands, especially on the Postmart floor.

However, due to the large number of booths and products on e-commerce floors, the province's product display is very low and cannot reach many customers. Currently, a number of businesses that have been listed on the e-commerce floor such as Mecofood Company (rice), Hung Phat Fermented tofu Company, Vuon Nha Minh Company, etc. have a very low sales volume on e-commerce floors.
Currently, the Department of Industry and Trade cooperates with the E-commerce Development Center to establish traceability software for typical products of the province. This software aims to support production and business units to create trust with traditional customers; develop potential customers; contribute to promoting the image and brand of typical products of the province.
“In the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to support businesses to join e-commerce floors. Specifically, the Department will support 20 businesses to join Vietnam's major e-commerce platforms (Shopee, Sendo, Lazada, Tiki, Voso, Postmart) and 6 businesses to join Alibaba's international wholesale e-commerce platform. The Department also supports businesses to build a set of international standard brands for typical products of the province on the online environment (expected to support 12 units under the national e-commerce project in 2022); continues to train and develop human resources to develop e-commerce. In addition, the Department proposed the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy a list of businesses and products participating in e-commerce application programs of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Vietnamese online store, cross-border e-commerce export, Goonline, Online Friday, etc.)" - Ms. Le added.
E-commerce is an inevitable trend, suitable for epidemic conditions and the development of society. However, this is still a new direction, so it requires more time and determination of enterprises, cooperatives, and production facilities and the joint support of relevant levels and sectors./.
