Economic growth of Long An ranks 6th in the Mekong Delta region

On June 24, the People's Committee of Long An province held a press conference to inform about the socio-economic situation in the first 6 months of the year and the working program for the last 6 months of 2022.

In the first 6 months of the year, the epidemic was well controlled, and economic activities continued to be restored. The economic growth rate in the first 6 months reached 5.11 percent (sector I increased by 1.01 percent; region II increased 5.5 percent and region III increased 6.93 percent). With this growth rate, Long An province ranked 6th out of 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta; ranked 5th out of 8 provinces and cities in the southern key economic region.

Trade and service activities have been strongly restored. Besides, budget management was focused on implementation; budget revenue increased by more than 12 percent over the same period. Budget expenditure was strictly and effectively controlled. Credit activity was stable, mobilized capital increased by 8.22 percent compared to the beginning of the year. At the same time, socio-cultural activities were focused on implementation. The province implemented well social welfare policies. Political security, social order and safety were guaranteed.

Besides the achieved results, the socio-economic development in the province has faced difficulties, especially in agricultural production. Although industry shown signs of recovery, it was affected by the Covid-19 epidemic and political upheaval in the world; etc. The Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) in 2021 of the province reached a low level, decreased points and decreased grades compared to 2020. The progress of investment in infrastructure in industrial zones and clusters has been stagnant. Compensation, site clearance and resettlement have been still limited. Progress in public investment in a number of projects has been delayed, the implementation and disbursement has not met the requirements.

At the press conference, journalists and reporters focused on some issues related to land management, spontaneous residential areas, agricultural output, tutoring, school violence, traffic, security and order, etc. Representatives of some departments, branches and localities also explained the issues that were of concern to reporters and journalists.

Chief of the Provincial People's Committee Office - Nguyen Anh Viet acknowledged and thanked the contributions of reporters, press agencies inside and outside the province for timely information on the socio-economic situation of the province to the people as well as accompanying the development of the province. With regard to the new issues raised by reporters at the press conference, he asked departments, branches and localities to pay attention to respond to press agencies.

In addition, the Standing Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee for Propaganda and Education - Huynh Van Thanh hoped that journalists and reporters would focus on propagating the implementation of 3 breakthrough programs and 3 key projects of the province, especially site clearance to create consensus from the people; the planning work of the province, attracting investment, developing socio-economic in association with ensuring national defense; foreign information; activities towards the Congress of the Provincial Veterans' Association and the Youth Union Congress; anti-corruption work; the prevention of the Covid-19 epidemic.

On the same day, the Provincial People's Committee also held a meeting and congratulated journalists and press agencies working in the province on the 97th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day./.
