Long An strives to improve PCI in 2022

On May 24, Long An held a conference to report the results of the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) in 2021 and solutions in 2022.

At the conference

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Nguyen Van Duoc, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Van Ut chaired the conference. Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - Mai Van Nhieu, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam and leaders of provincial departments and branches attended the conference.

In 2021, the province's PCI reached 66.58 points; ranked 16th out of 63 provinces and cities in the whole country; ranked 3rd out of 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta. Compared to 2020, the province's PCI decreased by 3.79 points and 13 ranks on the national PCI rankings. This was the deepest drop in the last 5 years.

In the 10 sub-indexes, 2 indexes have increased (business support policies; legal institution) and 8 indexes have decreased compared to 2020, especially 4 indicators of land accessibility; transparency; time costs and informal costs.

There were many objective and subjective reasons causing the province's PCI in 2021 to drop sharply in both scores and rankings on the national PCI rankings compared to 2020. Specifically, the first cause was the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. Next, agencies and units were not really interested in monitoring, evaluating and improving the component indicators; identify the causes and propose solutions to improve the provincial competitiveness index, etc.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Nguyen Van Duoc spoke at the conference

At the conference, representatives of departments, sectors and localities proposed solutions to improve the provincial PCI in 2022.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - Nguyen Van Duoc requested departments and branches to solve the shortcomings and limitations; proactively find solutions to improve PCI in 2022 with a specific action plan to strive to be in the group of 10 PCI indexes of the whole country.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Van Ut emphasized that in 2022, Long An strives to improve the PCI Index to be ranked in the top 10 nationwide

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Van Ut received the direction of the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee. The Provincial People's Committee will direct branches and localities to be more drastic, especially in the last 6 months of 2022.

He asked departments, branches and localities to overcome limitations so that Long An could strive to be in the group of 10 nationwide in PCI./.
