Farmers clean the fields for the 2025 Summer-Autumn rice crop
Focusing on cleaning the fields to plant the rice crop
Currently, farmers are focusing on cleaning the fields and planting the 2025 Summer-Autumn rice crop according to the first sowing schedule recommended by the professional agency to limit harmful pests and diseases. Mr. Nguyen Van Ninh (Khanh Hung commune, Vinh Hung district, Long An province) said: "From the beginning of the crop, farmers were propagandized and instructed to sow according to the recommendations of the professional agency to achieve good results. This crop, my family produced 3 hectares of rice, and now it is ready to sow".
According to the Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Hung district - Nguyen Thanh Tung, in the 2025 Summer-Autumn rice crop plan, the whole district sowed 28,300 hectares. The sector guides farmers to clean the fields to limit weeds, rice straw, plow and bury the straw to increase soil fertility, limit organic poisoning, cut off the spread of pests and diseases; level the fields to limit weeds and golden apple snails; strictly implement concentrated sowing and planting according to the crop calendar".
According to the plan, in the 2025 Summer-Autumn rice crop, Tan Hung district will plant 37,000 hectares. Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tan Hung district - Phan Van Ni said: "Given the weather and pests that still pose a risk of outbreak, negatively affecting production, the District People's Committee directs relevant agencies, units, People's Committees of communes and towns in the area to focus on implementing many solutions to ensure successful production of the 2025 winter-spring rice crop.
Accordingly, localities focus on directing the review and development of reasonable sowing plans, ensuring the isolation period with the Winter-Spring crop; regularly update weather, hydrometeorology, water resources, insects, especially brown planthoppers and rice stem borers to arrange planting times suitable for local conditions”.

In many areas of Summer-Autumn rice 2025, farmers do not follow the schedule recommended by specialized agencies
Although the Department of Agriculture from the province to districts and towns recommends that farmers sow the 2025 Summer-Autumn rice crop according to schedule to limit pests and diseases, up to this point, farmers in Dong Thap Muoi districts of the province such as Tan Hung and Vinh Hung still massively sow the 2025 Summer-Autumn rice crop with an area of thousands of hectares not following the recommendations.
In Vinh Hung district, more than 8,000 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice were sown before the first sowing schedule, concentrated in low-lying communes such as Tuyen Binh, Tuyen Binh Tay, Vinh Thuan, Vinh Tri, Vinh Binh. Mr. Tran Van Vinh (Vinh Tri commune, Vinh Hung district) said: “The whole area is plowed to plant the 2025 Summer-Autumn rice crop. Although we know it is not the sowing schedule yet, everyone is doing it, we have to follow suit”.
In Tan Hung district, after harvesting the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring rice crop, farmers continued to plant the 2025 Summer-Autumn rice crop without following the recommendations of the professional agency. Currently, the district has more than 3,600 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice, concentrated in low-lying communes of the district such as Vinh Loi, Vinh Chau B, Vinh Thanh, Thanh Hung, Hung Thanh, etc.
According to the Chairman of Vinh Hung District People's Committee - Tran Van Cuong, to ensure good results in Summer-Autumn rice production in 2025, limit the spread of pests, and the risk of drought and heat, the District People's Committee directed members of the District Production Protection Committee, People's Committees of communes, towns and related units to focus on directing the review and development of a reasonable plan for Summer-Autumn rice planting; propagandizing and mobilizing farmers after harvesting the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring rice crop not to sow Summer-Autumn rice immediately, but to plow, prepare the land, clean the fields, etc to destroy pathogens, and sow according to the recommended crop schedule.
In addition, the district recommends that farmers use the following rice varieties: Group of fragrant and glutinous rice varieties: ST24, ST25, RVT, IR4625 glutinous rice; group of high-yield, high-quality and lightly fragrant rice varieties: OM4900, OM7347, OM18, Dai Thom 8, Nang Hoa 9; group of rice varieties that are quite resistant to drought and salinity: OM5451, OM4900, etc. The district promotes the linkage of production and consumption of agricultural products according to the project on applying high technology associated with restructuring the agricultural sector in the area; recommends the development of high-quality, organic production models to increase production value, etc.
Spontaneous sowing and planting without following the crop calendar can easily lead to outbreaks of pests and diseases on rice plants, directly affecting productivity. In addition to propaganda, farmers need to raise awareness, proactively prevent risks in production, apply scientific and technical advances to the fields and actively monitor rice plants to promptly detect and treat pests and diseases, ensuring a successful crop./.
