Speaking at the event, Nguyen Huu Hung, Vice Director of the Department of Health, said the peak of the campaign will last until the end of June while a range of activities will be held throughout the year.

The campaign will focus on sanitation work to kill mosquito larva and clean the environment in districts, particularly areas infected by the disease, on a weekly basis. Frequent inspections will also be carried out to promptly detect and tackle outbreaks.

Statistics from the department showed that the number of dengue fever cases has been on the rise in recent years. In 2018 alone, about 28,000 people were hospitalised due to the disease, 10 of them were killed.

Vaccine for dengue fever has only been tested in a number of countries and has yet to be available in Vietnam. As such, locals are recommended to actively kill mosquito larva at home and at working places./.
