Mr. Truong Thanh Lam (Thanh Duc commune, Ben Luc district) prepares nearly 400 bougainvillea plants to supply the market
A colorful picture
For more than 10 years, in An Hoa 3 quarter, Thu Thua town, Thu Thua district, Long An province, Mr. Le Van Phuoc (born in 1964) has been persistent in growing marigolds. His family's flower garden not only serves the Lunar New Year market but also brings spring colors and hope during the New Year.
Mr. Phuoc shared: "This year, my family planted 5,000 pots of marigolds of all kinds. In addition, I also grow sedum and celosia. If the weather is favorable, the flowers will bloom brilliantly and be ready to be sold from the beginning of December (Lunar Calendar)".
This year, Mr. Le Van Phuoc (Thu Thua town, Thu Thua district) grows 5,000 pots of marigolds of all kinds
According to Mr. Phuoc, to have beautiful flower pots that bloom in time for Tet, growers must be meticulous in every step, from choosing seeds, nurturing plants, fertilizing to pruning buds and preventing pests and diseases. The soil must always be kept loose, full of nutrients, and growers must closely monitor weather developments.
“With every sudden rain or harsh sunlight, growers must promptly cover and reduce the heat to protect the plants.” said Mr. Phuoc.
Flowers need to be watered regularly in the early morning and afternoon to maintain moisture without waterlogging the roots. When budding, pruning helps the flowers bloom evenly, large and beautiful. The flower pots are always placed in a sunny place, ensuring the best development.
If the flowers show signs of blooming early, Mr. Phuoc dilutes nitrogen fertilizer, watering twice a day to prolong the growth period, keeping the flowers blooming in time for Tet.
Thanks to his extensive experience and meticulous care, Mr. Phuoc's marigold garden is always trusted by customers, who order early at prices ranging from 100,000-120,000 VND/pair, bringing in a stable income.
Looking at the brilliant flowers garden blooming right on Tet, he feels proud because it not only improves his family's economy but also contributes to beautifying the neighbor, bringing joy to every home.
Mr. Tran Minh Thanh - a gardener in Huong Tho Phu commune, Tan An city, is taking care of 150 yellow apricot trees to serve the Lunar New Year market. These days, he is busy pruning the leaves, preparing for the apricot to bloom right on Tet.
Although he has prepared carefully, according to his assessment, the market this year is somewhat quiet, traders have not come to the garden as much as in previous years. Some trees in his garden have not reached the desired quality, but he will continue to take care of them so that next year the trees can meet the standards.
Mr. Thanh shared that in order to have beautiful apricot trees, growers have to spend a lot of effort in pruning, shaping and taking care of them carefully. In particular, trees with flowers that bloom at the right time, have a beautiful shape and many buds will sell for a high price.
The weather plays an important role, because in less than a month, it will determine which trees are qualified to sell for Tet. Therefore, fertilizing, watering, pruning, etc must be done accurately to ensure that the flowers bloom according to the growers' wishes.
"Currently, the commune has 2 households growing flowers on large scale with methodical care process, aiming to provide high-quality products for the Tet market. The remaining households mainly grow flowers in small quantities, serving the consumption needs of their families, however, the quality of the flowers is still guaranteed, bringing diversity to the market".

Mr. Tran Van Sum (Binh Lang commune, Tan Tru district) said: “This year, I planted 2,500 pots of marigolds. To ensure the flowers grow well and bloom in time for Tet, I always spend time taking care of the garden, weeding, killing pests and diseases, and carefully preparing the soil to avoid the plants from falling when watering or in strong winds.
Currently, regular customers from companies and construction sites have ordered large quantities of flowers, and it is expected that from December 25-27 (Lunar calendar), I will start harvesting and delivering flowers”.
Specializing in growing marigolds for Tet, Mr. Sum carried out the steps of composting, preparing the soil, and selecting varieties from June (Lunar calendar). Currently, the flower crop is entering an important stage, the plants begin to branch and form buds. However, with favorable weather and dedicated care from farmers, it is forecasted that this year's flower crop will be of high quality, blooming on time, bringing a bumper Tet season to the gardens".
Taking care of 1,500 bougainvillea trees of various sizes since the beginning of the year, for the Lunar New Year 2025, Mr. Truong Thanh Lam (Thanh Duc commune, Ben Luc district) has prepared nearly 400 bougainvillea trees that meet the requirements and have beautiful shapes to supply to the market. The expected price of each tree is from 900,000 - 4,500,000 VND, including a ceramic pot.
In addition, Mr. Lam's garden also plans to supply 300 pots of periwinkle and 200 pots of bay laurel on this occasion. In early November, traders from many places came to the garden to order, helping him have a prosperous season.

Mr. Lam excitedly said: "I really hope that the flowers will bloom evenly and beautifully, meeting market demand. Besides, I hope that the price of flowers will increase slightly due to the scarcity during Tet. This Tet flower crop will create a significant source of income for farmers, helping them recover from previous difficulties and creating motivation to continue developing the flower growing profession in the coming years".
The Tet flower crop is not only an opportunity for farmers to increase their income but also an opportunity for them to place their trust and hope in a warm and prosperous new year. The brilliant colors of Tet flowers show the diligence and hope of growers.
