Meeting overseas Vietnamese on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2025

On January 25, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Long An province organized a meeting of overseas Vietnamese and their relatives on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025. The event was not only an occasion for reunion of those far from home but also expressed respect and recognition of the practical contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community to the development of the province.

Attending the meeting were Chairman of the Provincial Overseas Vietnamese and Relatives Association - Doan Minh Thanh, along with representatives of provincial departments, branches and sectors and more than 50 overseas Vietnamese and relatives from many countries around the world returning to their homeland to celebrate Tet.

Before the meeting, the Overseas Vietnamese and Relatives Association visited Long An Monument Park "Brave and resilient, all people fighting the enemy", expressing gratitude to previous generations who sacrificed for their homeland and country.

The meeting is not only an opportunity to express gratitude and acknowledge the important contributions of overseas Vietnamese and their relatives in activities of connecting, investing in economic development, charity, and social security, but also affirms the role of the Overseas Vietnamese and Relatives Association in listening to and understanding the thoughts and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese.

The Association hopes to continue to receive support and companionship from overseas Vietnamese in developing the local socio-economic situation, preserving the national cultural identity, strengthening the great national unity bloc, contributing to consolidating the belief and encouraging overseas Vietnamese to turn to their homeland, joining hands to develop the province.

Over the years, with the support and mobilization from the Overseas Vietnamese and Relatives Association and the Fatherland Front at all levels, overseas Vietnamese have always contributed to their homeland with practical and meaningful actions: welfare projects such as building and repairing bridges, roads, schools, and medical stations, participating in humanitarian and charitable activities.

Over the past year, the total amount of overseas Vietnamese contributions to social security programs in the province reached more than 10 billion VND, thousands of gifts and scholarships for poor students, free medical examinations and treatment, charity houses and solidarity houses. In addition, 4,800 kg of rice was donated, and 180m of rural roads were built, helping to improve the lives of people in remote areas.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese and Relatives Association of the province - Doan Minh Thanh emphasized that no matter where they live in the world, when Tet comes, overseas Vietnamese always turn to their roots. He expressed his joy at welcoming people far from home to reunite with their families during Tet, and at the same time sent greetings and New Year wishes to the overseas Vietnamese community who have not had the opportunity to return to their homeland. He also acknowledged and appreciated the spirit of mutual love of the overseas Vietnamese community, who are always ready to share and help those in difficult circumstances with practical and humane actions.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Long An Provincial People's Committee presented certificates of merit to 28 overseas Vietnamese individuals with outstanding achievements in social charity work and building welfare projects in the province in 2024./.
