Long An: Consumer price index increases 0.18% in March 2019

Consumer price index (CPI) in March 2019 in Long An increased by 0.18% compared to the previous month, of which goods increased by 0.05% and services increased by 0.39%. In the group of goods, food and foodstuff fell by 0.73% and non-food - food products increased by 0.9%.

Compared to the previous month, among 11 groups of goods and services, there are 3 groups of price indexes such as transportation increased the highest by 2.69%; housing, electricity, fuel and construction materials increased by 0.38%; other goods and services increased by 0.08%.

5 groups decrease price index including food services decreased by 0.23%; culture, entertainment and tourism fell by 0.19%; equipment and household appliances fell by 0.04%; garments, hats and footwear fell by 0.02%; drinks and cigarettes decreased by 0.01%.

Drug and medical service groups, post and telecommunication groups and education groups have constant price indexes. 

Causes of CPI increase are that gas price increased by 5.18% due to domestic price increase from March 1, 2019, with an increase of VND 17,000 per 12-kilogram container due to the increase in world gas price; gasoline and oil prices rose by 5.47% from the adjustment on March 2, 2019; the price of environmental sanitation services increased by 4.29% due to the increased collection fee of some places; Average electricity price increased by 8.36% from March 20, 2019 according to Decision No. 648/QDBCT dated March 20, 2019 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, however, the increase in electricity price has not affected much on electricity prices. In March 2019, the electricity price index for daily life in March 2019 increased by 0.2% mainly due to increased consumption in hot weather.

Some reasons to limit CPI: Consuming demand after the Lunar New Year holiday reduced the price of fresh food products, of which pork price decreased by 0.56%; Fresh vegetables decreased by 4.9% due to favorable weather; consumer demand for goods and services after the Lunar New Year holiday, prices of garments, hats, shoes, beverages and cigarettes returned to the price level before the Lunar New Year.

On average, in the first 3 months of 2019, CPI increased by 3.06% compared to the same period in 2018. CPI in March 2019 increased by 0.56% compared to December last year and increased by 3.06% over the same period last year ./.
