Long An: Many localities pay to support Covid-19 pandemic for freelance workers

Complying with the Government's Resolution No. 42/NQ-CP dated April 9, 2020 on measures to support people facing difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Long An conducted a review and listing for a group of employees whose employment contracts are terminated and employment contracts are not eligible for unemployment benefits, workers who do not enter into labor contracts lose their jobs (referred to as the freelance group).

Up to this point, Long An has 9 districts and towns (Tan Tru, Thanh Hoa, Chau Thanh, Vinh Hung, Can Giuoc, Can Duoc, Ben Luc, Moc Hoa and Kien Tuong town) approved by the provincial People's Committee and support funds for the freelance group, with a total of 6,789 people.

This is a group of freelance workers: street vendors; small and retail trade without shops; garbage and scrap collectors; workers carrying goods on their back, transporting goods; motorbike drivers; etc.

The support level is prescribed 1 million VND per person per month. Total funding support for target groups on 4.8 billion VND. However, up to now, only Kien Tuong town, Thanh Hoa and Moc Hoa districts have paid to freelance workers, the rest of localities, due to financial difficulties, have not yet paid to the people.

Particularly, the remaining localities are continuing to review and make a list and submit it to the provincial People's Committee for approval./.
