The Sustainable Agricultural Transformation in Vietnam Project (VnSAT) is funded by the World Bank. Long An is one of eight provinces in the Mekong River Delta to implement this project, the implementation period 2015-2020. The goal of the project is to transfer science - learn advanced techniques, change traditional production practices, increase competitiveness of the rice industry, reduce negative impacts on the environment in rice production, improve quality of life, etc.
In Long An, the VnSAT project was implemented in 23 communes of 4 districts and towns such as Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Moc Hoa, Tan Thanh and Kien Tuong town. Up to now, the total implemented area of the project is nearly 49,600 hectares, with 25,000 households participating.
According to the statistics in 2020, technology applications of ”3 decrease, 3 increase”; “1 must, 5 reduce” brings higher profits than traditional production. Specifically, farmers can reduce 60 kilos of seeds per hectares per crop; the amount of manure reduced by 125 kilos per hectares per crop; The number of pesticides and insecticides was reduced by 2.5 times per hectares per crop, etc. Thereby, the production cost is over 10 million VND per hectares per crop lower than traditional production, it contributes to the increase of average profit from 16-19 million VND per hectares per crop.
