Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway is invested more than 9,880 billion VND. This is the first high-speed road project in Vietnam. It has been put into operation since 2010, until January 2019, it has temporarily stopped charging. At this time, the vehicles on National Highway 1 have been rushing to Trung Luong - Ho Chi Minh City expressway so the route was seriously degraded.

According to the statistics of the Road Administration Department IV, currently, the number of cars travelling on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway increases 31 percent compared to the time before the fee was collected, sometimes even over 51,000 vehicles per day and night.

At present, there have been many cracks, wheel ruts on the road surface. The number of accidents, especially in the emergency stop lane, has increased by 1.5 times compared to the past, including fatal cases.

For that reason, the Road Administration Department IV proposed the Vietnam General Department of Road to supplement 107 billion VND for emergency repair of Trung Luong - Ho Chi Minh City expressway, path and drainage system to prevent degradation in 2020.

In the long term, it is necessary to divert investment and surface repair for this expressway for 122 billion VND (in 2021) and 140 billion VND (in 2022) to improve exploitation status.

At the same time, the Road Administration Department IV also proposed to be soon directed to repair the intelligent traffic management system on the route. Up to now, the software of this system is faulty, many cameras on the route have been damaged so they cannot transfer data to the center./.
