Surveying the 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice model in Tan Thanh district

On January 14, the working delegation led by Deputy Director of Long An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Ho Thi Ngoc Lan surveyed and evaluated the effectiveness of the pilot model on Sustainable Development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta at Tan Binh Agricultural Service Cooperative, Tan Binh commune, Tan Thanh district.

The delegation visits and surveys the pilot model of high-quality and low-emission rice at Tan Binh Agricultural Service Cooperative (Tan Thanh district)

In the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, Tan Binh Agricultural Service Cooperative was selected to implement a model of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation using border-effect seeder and fertilizer at 7 member households on an area of 14.2 hectares.

Accordingly, farmers implementing the model will use border-effect seeder combined with fertilizing. The amount of seed sown is 80kg/hectare, the amount of fertilizer is 200kg/hectare, applying the alternating flooding and drying process.

Up to this point, the rice areas in the model are in the harvest stage.

According to the cooperative's estimate, the rice yield of the model is 1-1.5 tons/hectare higher than outside. The total production cost is about 18.2-21.3 million VND/hectare, lower than outside the model by 0.7-4.8 million, selling at 6,200 VND/kg. The profit is 21-31 million VND/hectare, higher than outside the model by 1.3-10 million VND.

After visiting the model, the working delegation had a direct meeting with Tan Binh Agricultural Service Cooperative, cooperatives and local agricultural sectors participating in implementing the project. They also discussed a number of issues regarding the production process, fertilizer use, water resource management, alum treatment, weeds, etc.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Ho Thi Ngoc Lan speaks at the meeting

Ms. Lan requested that cooperatives and farmers participating in the project strictly follow the production process to reduce costs, increase productivity and profits.

In addition, she also suggested that cooperatives promote the spirit of self-reliance, not waiting or relying on the State's support; especially proactively connecting, finding stable output for rice, avoiding being passive in the consumption stage./.
