Maintaining growth momentum, creating leverage for 2025

In 2024, the socio-economic situation of the country in general and Long An in particular met many intertwined opportunities and challenges. With the drastic direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee on socio-economic development, synchronous solutions such as issuing policies, organizing many direct meetings and dialogues with enterprises, production and business establishments to remove difficulties for production and business activities, improve the investment environment, reform administrative procedures, promote digital transformation, etc., in 2024, the Industry and Trade sector maintained positive growth momentum, contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the province.

Many outstanding results

In 2024, secondary sector grew by double digits of 10.95% (same period increased by 7.05%). Of which, industry increased by 11.26% (same period increased by 7.27%). Tertiary sector increased by 6.44% (same period increased by 4.39%). Specific targets: Industrial production index in 2024 increased by 10.5% over the same period last year; total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in 2024 reached 104,148 billion VND (exceeding 35.26% of the plan), up 18.02% over the same period. Households using electricity in the whole province to date reached 99.97%. Import and export activities achieved the set plan with the total import and export turnover in 2024 reaching 13.096 billion USD, of which exports reached 7.85 billion USD, up 14.25%; imports reaching 5.2 billion USD, up 21.27%.

To achieve this result, the Department of Industry and Trade proposed many trade promotion programs; consumption of goods and market stabilization, supporting about 800 enterprises to participate in trade promotion events, connecting trade with enterprises and organizations at home and abroad; implementing the Plan to implement the Border Trade Agreement between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Long An province; implementing the Vietnam - China Border Trade Agreement; proposing to import rice from Cambodia through secondary border gates and openings in the province; regularly coordinate with agencies under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Counselors, Vietnam Trade Offices in countries, border localities to provide information on market situations, policies, and laws of countries to inform businesses.

In 2024, the Department of Industry and Trade made efforts and achieved many positive results, excellently completing its tasks. The administrative reform index of provincial departments and branches maintained growth momentum, creating leverage for 2025, reaching 5th place (up 13 places compared to 2023). Digital transformation ranked excellent, reaching 3rd place (up 14 places compared to 2023). The Department & District Competitiveness Index (DDCI) reached 4th place (up 1 place compared to 2023).

Maintaining the growth rate of industry and trade

2025 is a year of special significance, the year of successfully implementing of the Resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress and the Industry and Trade Development Plan for the period 2020-2025. Meanwhile, global trade is forecast to continue to recover but there are potential risks that affect import and export activities such as political conflicts between countries, inflation, tight monetary policies, prolonged interest rate increases in many countries; the value of many countries' currencies depreciating against the USD.

Promoting the results in 2024, implementing the direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee on socio-economic development in 2025, the Industry and Trade sector is determined to complete the assigned targets and tasks, contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the province in 2025. Accordingly, at the beginning of the year, the Party Committee of the Department of Industry and Trade issued Resolution No. 437-NQ/DU, dated January 6, 2025 on the direction and tasks in 2025. The Department of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 12/QD-SCT, dated January 20, 2025 on the Action Program to implement the task of developing the Industry and Trade sector in 2025. Thereby setting out specific targets and goals to focus on leading, directing and operating to successfully complete the tasks in 2025, especially completing the tasks assigned by the Provincial People's Committee.

According to Director of the Department of Industry and Trade - Huynh Van Quang Hung, in order to successfully achieve the above goal, the Industry and Trade sector continues to strive to maintain a stable and sustainable growth rate of industry and trade associated with transforming the growth model and restructuring industry - trade towards modernization, developing a green and sustainable economy and maximizing the potentials and advantages of the province in accordance with the Project on restructuring the Industry and Trade sector to 2030; developing a synchronous and reasonable industrial - trade infrastructure, contributing to the successful implementation of the Industry and Trade sector's targets in 2025; determining to carry out well the work of administrative reform, digital transformation and the Department and District Competitiveness Index (DDCI), actively contributing to reforming the investment and business environment, improving the competitiveness of the province in a sustainable manner./.
