Exceeding targets

In 2024, the socio-economic situation of the country in general and Long An in particular take place in a context of many intertwined opportunities and challenges.

In the country, the economy recovers thanks to synchronous solutions such as issuing mechanisms and policies to remove difficulties for production and business activities, improving the investment environment, reforming administrative procedures, promoting the digital transformation process, etc.

In addition, with the direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee on socio-economic development in 2024, the Department of Industry and Trade issued Action Program No. 08a, dated January 26, 2024 on implementing the task of developing the Industry and Trade sector in 2024.

In 2024, the Industry and Trade sector maintains a positive growth momentum, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province.

Specifically, Secondary sector increased by 10.95% (same period increased by 7.05%). Of which, industry increased by 11.26% (same period increased by 7.27%). Tertiary sector increased by 6.44% (same period increased by 4.39%).

Specific indicators such as the Industrial Production Index in 2024 increased by 10.5% over the same period. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in 2024 are estimated at 104,148 billion VND(exceeding 35.26% of the plan), up 18.02% over the same period.

Import and export activities achieved the set plan with total turnove reaching 12.9 billion USD, of which exports are estimated at 7.5 billion USD (100% of the plan), up 8.69%; imports are estimated at 5.4 billion USD (100% of the plan), up 25.58%. Electricity coverage in the whole province have reached 99.97%.

In the province, there are 72 planned industrial clusters with a total area of ​​3,989 hectares. Of which, 17 industrial clusters, with an area of ​​857 hectares, have been put into operation; 25 industrial clusters, with an area of ​​1,278 hectares, are being implemented, carrying out investment procedures and building technical infrastructure; 28 industrial clusters, with an area of ​​1,808 hectares, are newly planned in the 2021-2030 period and Hai Son Duc Hoa Dong industrial cluster, with an area of ​​261.2 hectares.

The industrial parks have attracted 650 projects with a total leased area of ​​607.14 hectares. The occupancy rate of operating industrial parks has reached 84.21% (calculated on the commercial area with completed infrastructure). Currently, there are about 400 enterprises operating with a workforce of about 29,000 people.

Supporting enterprises to promote trade

One of the highlights of the Industry and Trade sector in 2024 is strengthening trade promotion activities, consumption of goods and market stabilization.

Accordingly, the Department of Industry and Trade advised the Provincial People's Committee to promulgate and implement a trade promotion program with a total budget of nearly 2.5 billion VND. Of which, the budget for the foreign trade development program accounted for 60%; domestic market development accounted for 30% and other trade promotion programs accounted for 10%.

During the year, more than 650 enterprises were supported to participate in trade promotion events, connecting with domestic and foreign enterprises and trade promotion organizations.

At the same time, the department also assigned staff to monitor and report on market prices periodically every month to promptly report, advise, and propose, to avoid shortages of goods leading to unreasonable price increases.

In addition, the department also advised the Provincial People's Committee to promulgate a Plan to implement the Border Trade Agreement between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Long An province; implement the Vietnam - China Border Trade Agreement; advise the Provincial People's Committee on the import of rice from Cambodia through secondary border gates in the province; regularly coordinate with agencies under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Counselors, and Vietnam Trade Offices in other countries and border localities to inform businesses about the market situation, policies, and laws of other countries, etc. In particular, the department advised the Provincial People's Committee to successfully organize the Long An Export Promotion and Trade Connection Conference in 2024.

E-commerce activities have been promoted through propaganda, supporting businesses and cooperatives in applying digital commerce, and initially connecting e-commerce platforms quite well.

In addition, the department organized training and development of e-commerce human resources in Long An province through seminar on digital transformation in e-commerce - supporting businesses to bring products to Alibaba.com; training on supporting businesses to promote cross-border e-commerce applications.

The Department of Industry and Trade also coordinated with the E-commerce Development Center to maintain the software for tracing the origin of typical products of Long An province (https://truyxuatnguongoc.longan.gov.vn), deploying it to participating enterprises, cooperatives, and related units. Up to now, 23 enterprises have registered and confirmed codes for 47 products, 3 production batches, with 6,401 product code scans. The Long An province e-commerce platform (http://longantrade.com/) also continues to be deployed for enterprises, cooperatives, and business establishments to participate in connecting with the Unified E-commerce Platform of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (https://sanviet.vn/). Up to now, there have been 76 booths participating in the platform with 312 products. The number of transactions on the Postmart e-commerce platform is 3,827. Long An's turnover on Shopee, TikTok shop, Lazada, Sendo, Tiki in 10 months of 2024 was 935.9 billion VND, an increase of 76.12% (the whole country is 268,660 billion VND). The department also coordinated with digital technology enterprises in the province (Viettel, VNPT, etc) to pilot cashless payments at markets, shopping malls, and business establishments./.
