Located in Quarter 2, Ben Luc Town, Ben Luc District, the Memorial Site of Lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho was given the title National Historical Relic on June 29, 2015. Since its inauguration, the site has attracted many young people to visit and learn about his life and career.
Lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho, alias Ba Nghia (1910-1996) was a patriotic intellectual, a political and social activist devoted to the revolution. He was born in Trung Quan District, Cho Lon Province (now Ben Luc District, Long An Province). After studying abroad in France, he returned to Vietnam and practiced law and opened a law office.
Witnessing the brutal repression of his fellow countrymen by the colonial invaders, in 1947, he began to participate in the revolution, leading protests against the French. From 1950 to 1961, despite being arrested and exiled, he continued to fight for peace and national reunification.

Arousing patriotism
Vam Nhut Tao was recognized as a national historical relic on June 28, 1996. This is a historical site located at the confluence of the Vam Co Dong and Nhut Tao rivers, in Tan Binh commune, Tan Tru district, marking the glorious victory of the Vietnamese people in the resistance war against French colonialism. On December 10, 1861, hero Nguyen Trung Truc and his army achieved the victory by sinking the enemy's warship L'Espérance, thereby arousing patriotism and indomitable spirit of our people.
Nguyen Trung Truc (1839-1868) was born in Nghe hamlet, Binh Nhut village, Binh Cach Thuong commune, Cuu An district, Tan An prefecture, now hamlet 1, Thanh Duc commune, Ben Luc district, Long An province. The outstanding son of Long An led the insurgents to a bold and intelligent battle, destroying the French warships. This victory not only demonstrated the bravery and strategy of the Vietnamese people but also dealt a heavy blow to the French colonialists, encouraging the resistance movement across the country.

The entire relic site has an area of 6.1 hectares, with a total investment of more than 50 billion VND, started construction in 2003 and inaugurated in October 2010 with the main items: Stele house, memorial temple, exhibition house, green park, etc. In particular, when visiting the exhibition house, visitors will be introduced to 6 main topics, closely related to the life and career of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc.
To preserve and promote the historical value of the Vam Nhut Tao relic, Tan Tru district has coordinated with DTM Travel Company to organize the tour "Tan Tru, my homeland" to attract people, especially young people. When participating in the tour, union members and young people not only burn incense, learn about the life and career of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc, but also experience weaving sedge mats, covering drums and making rice cakes - traditional occupations of Tan Tru district. This is the first step in the roadmap for developing rural, community and eco-tourism in the district and province.

The tour guides and interpreters of the "Tan Tru, my homeland" tour are students in the district
The special feature of the "Tan Tru, my homeland" tour is that the tour guides and interpreters are students from schools in the district. Through the guidance of young people, vivid historical stories are recreated, helping listeners feel the spirit of patriotism and national pride.
Duong Thi Kim Nga (Tan Binh commune, Tan Tru district) is a 6th grade student at Nguyen Van Bo Secondary School. She is one of the young tour guides of the relic site. Nga said: "I am very proud to be able to contribute a small part to help people know about the Vam Nhut Tao historical relic site. Tour guides help me become more confident and learn a lot of local historical knowledge. During the school year, I spend Sundays participating in tours with my friends, and during the summer, I spend Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays."
The Vam Nhut Tao historical relic site is a destination chosen by many tourist groups on their journey. Every year, the relic site welcomes about 10,000 visitors, including many students. From January 14 to February 17, 2025, the Vam Nhut Tao Historical Site welcomed 6 groups with 990 visitors and about 1,500 visitors.
