Swimmer Vo Thanh Tung claims third gold at Asian Para Games

Vietnamese swimmer Vo Thanh Tung clinched his third gold medal at the ongoing 2018 Asian Para Games (APG) in Indonesia after taking top honour in the men’s 200m freestyle S5 event on October 10.

Tung completed the final race in the fastest time of 03:00.02, beating the runner-up, Muhammad Nur Syaiful of Malaysia by 2.55 seconds, and 3.81 seconds faster than the bronze medalist, Jamery Siga of Malaysia. He also broke the APG record in this category.

Previously, Tung was also crowned the champion in the men’s 50m backstroke S5 and 100m freestyle S5 disciplines, in which he smashed the APG and Asian records, respectively.

So far, the swimming team brought home four gold medals for Vietnam in Indonesia, including three from Vo Thanh Tung and one by Nguyen Thanh Trung in the men’s 100m breaststroke SB4 event.

Chess players contributed two silvers to Vietnam’s 2018 APG medal tally on Wednesday in the women’s team standard VI-B2/B3 and women’s team standard P1 categories.

In addition, Vietnam pocketed three more bronzes thanks to swimmer Trinh Thi Bich Nhu in the women’s 50m freestyle S6 discipline, Tran Van Nguyen in the men’s shot put F40 event, and Nguyen Thi Hai in the women’s javelin throw F57 category.

As of 9pm today, Vietnam stood in 12th place in the provisional table with six gold, four silver and 13 bronze medals.
