The event will allow young participants from the ASEAN member countries to compete on the excellence of their skills and develop the skills and competencies needed by the labour market.
The Laboor Minister, Pol. Gen. Adul Saengsingkaew, said at press conference on August 9 that the WorldSkills ASEAN Bangkok 2018 will be held at IMPACT Exhibition Centre in Nonthaburi province.
The competition, which will take place for the 12th time, will be officially opened on August 30 and closed on September 4. There will be competitions for 26 occupational skills arranged in six groups, including: manufacturing technology, communications, information technology (IT) and web design, fashion and creativity, transportation and logistics, construction technology, and personal and social services.
The contest will bring together some 30,000 people, including contestants, referees, and spectators from the ASEAN region.
Pol. Gen. Adul said the Department of Skill Development, which is the main host of the event, is now prepared to arrange the competitions as well as other activities, such as ASEAN TVET Conference and One School One Country activity. He said the organizer has received good cooperation with related agencies that provide the venue and equipment for the contest to be staged perfectly.
"The honour Thailand receives in becoming the host of this event will greatly benefit the country, as the contest will bring in technologies and competition formats that allows the transmission of knowledge to related agencies and skills development units nationwide, while the competition itself will raise the awareness among youth and workers to keep on improving their skills, making Thailand a strong country in economic and social aspects, as well as promoting good relations between participating countries," the Labour Minister said./.
