Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee – Pham Van Canh chaired at Long An end-point
ASF has spread rapidly from one country to another in the world over the past years. According to information from the World Organization for Animal Health, more than 20 countries have reported to have ASF since 2017.
Vietnam shares a borderline of more than 1,000 kilometres with many border gates and hundreds of open-access paths with many border residents' activities such as breeding, trading, transporting, back-and-forth vehicles, etc., thus the risk of spreading the disease is really high. From February 1 - March 3, 2019, ASF occured in 202 households, 64 villages, 33 communes, 14 districts of 7 provinces and cities (Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, Ha Nam and Hai Duong) in Vietnam. The total number of infected and buried pigs is 4,231 with a total weight of more than 297 tons.
Facing this situation, Prime Minister – Nguyen Xuan Phuc directed the whole political system to prevent and control ASF. Particularly, the all-level sectors of Public Security, Defence, Steering Committee 389, Customs, etc., tighten the situation of trafficking and smuggling pigs, pig products and participating in response and handling the outbreak when disease occurs. The ministries, sectors, localities and enterprises have well implemented the contents of Directive No. 04/CT-TTg and the prevention and control of epidemics in the localities and the documents of the MARD.
Besides, the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and cities urgently develop and issue scenarios for epidemics that appear at other scales and areas in the localities to organize and bear responsibilities to the Prime Minister in preventing the infection of ASF. The localities need to propagandize and inform extensively and widely for all farmers, participants in trafficking, slaughtering, transportation, etc. and the whole society to seriously implement "5-no" issue in accordance with the Law on Veterinary Medicine (not hiding epidemic; not buying and selling, transporting sick pigs, dead pigs; not slaughtering, consuming sick pigs, dead pork; not throwing dead pigs into the environment; not using leftover for feeding pigs without treatment)./.
