In the talks, Deputy PM Hue highlighted the bilateral cooperation in economy and trade, with bilateral trade value topping US$60 billion last year. Of this figure, exports from the US rose to over US$12 billion, an increase of more than 36 percent over that of 2017, making Vietnam one of the markets with the fastest growth of the US.
Hue further affirmed that the Vietnamese Government advocates continuing to improve the investment environment and facilitate US firms to invest and do business in Vietnam, and that instructions will be given to Vietnam’s relevant ministries and sectors to actively address concrete concerns of the US side like the import of automobiles, cyber security, e-payment, and financial and monetary issues.
For his part, Secretary Mnuchin spoke highly of the prospects in the bilateral relations in economy, trade and investment, as well as the Vietnamese Government’s attention to and facilitation of the settlement of the issues of the US concern. He welcomed the recent signing of a number of economic cooperation totalling US$21 billion during President Donald Trump’s trip to Vietnam on the sidelines of the US-Democratic People’s Republic of Korea summit.
The US official expressed his hope that the two sides continue to push up the cooperation in the time to come and highly valued Vietnam’s provision of information for the US side on Vietnam’s advocates in the financial and monetary fields, and asked Vietnam to continue exchanging ideas with the US side on this matter.
The two sides agreed to continue further intensifying their cooperation in financial – monetary, economic – trade spheres and investment, thus making important contribution to the maintenance and acceleration of the bilateral relations towards the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam – US diplomatic relations next year./.
