Certificates of Merit presented for 18 Overseas Vietnamese with many contribution in 2019

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Tan Hoa, Vice Chairwoman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Long An province - Pham Ngoc Tiep attended the meeting.

The Overseas Vietnamese Relatives Association (OVRA) currently has 2,959 members in 9 district-, town- and city-level associations and 53 grassroots associations. In 2019, OV and their relatives contributed to supporting the poor and poor students, build solidarity houses and charity houses, build rural bridges and roads in the province worth over 14 billion VND.

Last year, the provincial OVRA and 100 percent of grassroots associations propagated the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws to its members. Especially, it propagandizes the environment for the investment, production, business and the investment-attracting policy of the province, thereby it mobilized overseas Vietnamese to invest in Long An.

At the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Pham Tan Hoa briefed the province's outstanding results in 2019. Accordingly, the economic growth (GRDP) maintained at a relatively high level of 9.41percent. Budget revenue reached 18,243 billion VND, equal to 123.1 percent over the same period. Export turnover reached 5.9 billion USD, up 12.8 percent over the same period; Import turnover reached 4.2 billion USD, up 1.8 percent over the same period. The poverty rate is only 1.52 percent, etc.

From the interest and support of OV and their relatives, many investment projects, cooperation programs, grants, social security in many fields such as tourism, education and training, health care, and response with climate change and investment projects on infrastructure development and poverty reduction have been implemented, contributed to improving the people's material life and spirit in the province.

Mr. Pham Tan Hoa emphasized that the Party Committee, the Government and the People of Long An province recognized and thanked the valuable contributions of OV, their relatives and partners in the past; At the same time, he wishes to continue receiving the attention of the Long An overseas Vietnamese community to join hands and contribute to the socio-economic development of the province.

Attending the meeting to welcome the Spring of the Rat 2020, Ms. Pham Thi Mai Huong, a relative of OV from the U.S., living in My Le commune, Can Duoc district was touched by the interest of the provincial leadership for overseas Vietnamese. She said that her family and relatives will continue to make more positive contribution as well as mobilize other expatriates to join forces to build Long An hometown more and more beautiful, civilized and modern.

In the same mood as Ms. Huong, Ms. Bui Thi Bay, a relative of OV from Australia, living in Ward 1, Tan An City expressed her joy when she was invited to attend the meeting. Mrs. Bay shared: “Every year, my family gives hundreds of gifts to poor, difficult and lonely families in the area. My family wants to share these gifts so that everyone can have a full and warm Tet”.
