Crowds fill Tan Son Nhat Airport as overseas Vietnamese return for Tet
Tan Son Nhat Airport was seriously overcrowded on February 6 as thousands of people crammed into the arrivals lounge of the international terminal as they waited to welcome their relatives living abroad back home for the Lunar New Year.
Tan Son Nhat was packed with people waiting to welcome their relatives back home.
It was reported that most of the passengers currently arriving on inbound flights from the United States, Canada, France, Australia, and the Republic of Korea, are overseas Vietnamese.
The Vietnamese New Year (Tet) will fall on February 16 this year and a huge influx of returning overseas Vietnamese is to be expected in the preceding days.
According to the Southern Airports Authority, the number of arrivals during the Tet holiday is projected to rise by 25% from last year to 4 million.
To deal with the increased demand, Tan Son Nhat Airport has arranged an additional 18 lots for aircraft parking and installed two more baggage scanners at the security gates of the international terminal.
People have been asked not to welcome their relatives within the arrivals hall area unless it is necessary, in order to prevent congestion.
Every day Vietnam is welcoming about 3,000-4,000 overseas Vietnamese who are returning home for Tet./.
