Developing unique and typical tourism products to attract sustainable tourists.

The tourism industry needs to develop unique tourism products for the province, avoiding generic tourism products that lack novelty, in order to attract sustainable tourists.

On August 22, the Provincial People's Council's monitoring delegation led by the Standing Committee Member of Long An Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - Mai Van Nhieu conducted a thematic monitoring of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on compliance with the law in planning tourism development in the province, period 2021 - 2023.

According to the assessment of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, after the Master Plan for tourism development in Long An province to 2020, with a vision to 2030 was approved, the sector identified this as one of the important tasks to research and build a system of tourism products, especially unique, attractive, competitive and suitable tourism products to meet market demand.

Thereby, turning the province's tourism potential into attractive products; supporting tourism business investors in the orientation of building typical tourism products of the province, making positive contributions to socio-economic development.

In particular, the department has coordinated with relevant units to advise the People's Committee to issue a Decision on approving the Project on tourism product development strategy of Long An province until 2020, with a vision to 2030.

Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism - Nguyen Thanh Thanh informs some results on tourism product development in the province

The implementation always ensures consistency with the development perspective, especially with innovative and breakthrough perspectives, always integrates into development orientations and solutions.

In recent times, tourism in the province has developed and achieved certain encouraging results, attracting more and more domestic and foreign visitors. In 2021, the province welcomed more than 244,100 visitors; in 2022, nearly 650,000 visitors and in 2023, more than 1 million visitors. The average growth rate in the 2021-2023 period reached 69% and 55% compared to the plan.

Long An has great potential for tourism development, but so far there are no specific tourism products of the province.

In terms of revenue, in 2021, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the province's tourism revenue dropped severely, reaching only 182.7 billion VND.

By 2022, the provincial tourism industry had promptly implemented measures to stimulate demand and restore tourism activities from the beginning of the year, so the number of tourists had basically recovered, with revenue reaching 344.4 billion VND. In 2023, the province's tourism revenue reached 560 billion VND. The average growth rate in the 2021-2023 period reached 76%/year and reached 30% compared to the plan.

Delegates suggest that the Department continue to have solutions to develop tourism

In addition to the achieved results, in the process of implementing the plan, there are still limitations and shortcomings such as low competitiveness in tourism; the development process still has unsustainability factors.

Although the tourism industry has made many innovations in recent times, tourism products are not diverse, mainly exploiting the natural tourism potential and existing historical and cultural relics, lacking specificity, not bearing the province's own identity, and not having own tourism brands.

At the monitoring session, the members of the delegation suggested that the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism should have solutions to build, promote and develop the tourism industry, especially building tourism products with specific characteristics of the province, overcoming existing limitations so that the provincial tourism industry can develop according to the tourism development plan in the province, period 2021 - 2023.

Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - Mai Van Nhieu speaks at the monitoring session

Speaking at the monitoring session, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - Mai Van Nhieu acknowledged the efforts of the industry in implementing the contents of the tourism development plan in the province.

He suggested that the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism should focus on recognizing the existing limitations to have breakthrough solutions in tourism development; carefully analyz tourism trends, characteristics, and strengths of each tourism product to build typical tourism products of the province, avoiding the situation of generic tourism products lacking novelty, in order to sustainably attract tourists.

Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - Mai Van Nhieu also noted that in building tourism products, it is necessary to promote cultural and historical factors, festivals, traditional craft villages, creating unique features for tourism products, building the image and destination of Long An tourism.

At the same time, the Department of Culture needs to continue to advise the province to introduce the image of the civilized and modern homeland of Long An to a large number of domestic and foreign tourists and friends./.
