In pictures: Policewomen direct traffic on Int’l Women’s Day

While other women are happy receiving gifts on International Women’s Day (March 8), some female police officers in the capital city of Hanoi have to control traffic at the junctions of busy streets.

A policewoman stands on a platform to control traffic, ensuring safety.

Wind, rain, or shine, female officers are working hard to direct traffic at intersections around the capital city.

Pictured is Sub-lieutenant Nguyen Thi Chau Linh of the Hanoi Traffic Police Department conducting the traffic at the junction of Nguyen Chi Thanh-Huynh Thuc Khang.

Linh says she hopes to visit family and receive gifts on International Women’s Day but her top priority is her job as a traffic cop.

Linh says she still receives flowers from kids on the special day.

Her work shift begins at 6 am, so Linh has to get up at 5 am every day to get to work on time.

She has spent three years policing the traffic, guiding the flow of vehicles at intersections.

Linh says the best gift she could receive for the special day would be drivers who obey traffic law.
