Long An plans to produce Summer-Autumn crop

Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - Pham Van Canh chaired the online conference to sum up the results of 2018-2019 Winter-Spring crop and plan to produce 2019 Summer-Autumn crop.

At the conference

According to the report, production of the 2018-2019 Winter-Spring crop has many advantages. The implementation of high-tech agricultural application with restructuring agriculture on rice, dragon fruit and vegetables has been effective.

Farmers' income has increased significantly. In a year, profit of dragon fruit and lemon growing is VND 100 - 400 million per hectare and from VND 50 - 150 million per hectare, respectively.

The area of sowing rice is estimated at 231,968 hectares per 232,600 hectares, reaching 99.7 percent of the plan, equaling 98.4 percent compared to the same period in 2018, the harvested area is 213.026 hectares.

Total production of the 2018-2019 Winter-Spring rice crop is estimated at over 1.4 million tons. The increase of rice productivity contributes to increase food production in the province.

However, unfavorable weather and complicated diseases adversely affects the production at the end of the Winter-Spring rice crop in some areas. The market is not stable. Prices of some crops are still low. Crop conversion according to the annual crop restructuring plan is reduced. Sugarcane growing tends to change other crops.

In the 2019 Summer-Autumn crop, the agricultural sector recommends localities to start the season at a reasonable time.

Accordingly, the first phase is expected from April 15 to 25 (from the 11th day to the 21st day of the 3rd month in the lunar calendar (in Dong Thap Muoi region); phase 2 is expected from May 13 to 23 (from the 9th day to the 19th day of the 4th month in the lunar calendar (in Dong Thap Muoi region); phase 3 is expected from June 10 to 20 (from 8th day to 18th day of the 5th month in the lunar calendar (in Southern districts).

Specially, in order to avoid damage, the areas that lack of water are not allowed to sow when the rainy season has not yet begun.

Mr. Pham Van Canh asked the departments, branches and local authorities to manage and monitor epidemic and weather conditions, enhance technical support, seeds and other policies for farmers so as to achieve high efficiency in the 2019 Summer-Autumn rice crop with an expected output of over 1.1 million tons.

Besides, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Industry and Trade and local authorities continue to encourage enterprises to invest in large-scale paddy fields associated with ensuring the consumption of agricultural products./.
