Ministry of Trade of Republic of Gabon visits and surveys rice-producing and exporting enterprises in Long An

Director of Long An Department of Industry and Trade - Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Ministry of Trade and enterprises specializing in exporting rice to Gabon join the promotion delegation.

Director of Long An Department of Industry and Trade - Nguyen Tuan Thanh said that Long An province has a large agricultural production area. In which, the annual rice sowing area is about 500,000 hectares, the average rice output is 2.8 million tons per year. Of which, hi-quality rice is 1.6 million tons, accounting for 55 percent of production.

Long An has many diverse and rich varieties to meet the needs of many markets. Long An has produced aromatic rice varieties, key specialties and high quality such as sticky rice, ST, Dai Thom 8, Nang Hoa 9, RVT, Resources, Nang aromatic, OM 5451, OM 4900, OM 6976, etc.

With the advantage of agricultural production, Long An has planned to build high-quality rice production areas and sub-regions by 2025, which is 60,000 hectares. Currently, Long An has over 22,000 hectares of hi-tech rice fields.

Realizing the importance of building raw material areas, step by step building a rice brand. Up to now, rice exporting enterprises in Long An province has deployed to build a raw material area linking production and consumption with a total annual area of over 10,000 hectares per year to trace the origin to serve the rice export activities, ensuring food safety and stable quality.

Currently, the annual direct export output of Long An province is about 600,000 - 800,000 tons of rice, accounting for 10 – 13 percent of the total export output of the country.

Long An currently has 25 enterprises allowed to directly export rice and 03 enterprises to export rice directly to China. In 2021, the total rice export turnover is 699,105 tons, reaching 328 million USD, up 3.05 percent in volume and down 10.81 percent in turnover.

Through listening to an introduction about the production capacity of Long An province, as well as a survey of the production capacity of Cong Thanh Ut Hanh One Member Co., Ltd., Gabon said that in addition to the need to import food, Gabon has an inviting demand. The Department of Industry and Trade, investors and businesses come to Gabon to learn about the market, climate, and rice production conditions. Thereby, Gabon wishes to invite businesses to transfer rice farming science and technology, invest in rice production lines in Gabon to serve the needs of this country as well as neighboring countries.

The Republic of Gabon is a country in Central Africa, with limited agricultural land, and must import food every year. Oil exploitation is the strength of Gabon's economy, accounting for 80 percent of export turnover./.
