Paving the way for rural tourism development

Rural tourism is increasingly gaining the attention of tourists because of the simplicity and rusticity from rural people and nature. Keeping up with that trend, in My Phu commune, Thu Thua district, Long An province, rural tourism development activities are gradually promoting the image of the locality.

Dare to think, dare to do

Realizing that rural tourism is gradually becoming a trend and can develop sustainably, Mr. Le Tan Phong (Hamlet 1, My Phu Commune, Thu Thua District) decided to pursue this area. Mr. Phong built Minh Anh vineyard with 2 types of crops including grapes and apples and opened it for visitors to visit, experience and buy fruits from the garden. After nearly 2 years of building the foundation, Mr. Phong's Minh Anh vineyard is now operating stably, attracting many tourists.

Mr. Phong shared: "Many places outside the province develop rural tourism very well, but the locality has not yet exploited this potential. Therefore, I want to take advantage of that, build a vineyard with a green, clean, beautiful and airy space to create an ideal tourist destination for those who are passionate about rural tourism".

To implement the idea, Mr. Phong spent more than 3 months in Ninh Thuan province to learn about grape and apple growing techniques from local farmers. In particular, he focused most on techniques in growing and disease treatment to help the trees bear fruit and grow well. He also constantly learned and researched knowledge and techniques for growing grapes and apples and rural tourism development from documents, books, newspapers, the Internet, etc to equip himself with a solid knowledge.

With the goal of developing rural tourism, from the beginning, Mr. Phong designed the grape and apple garden unlike ordinary gardens. He made a trellis with an iron frame about 2m high for the convenience of visitors to visit and experience picking fruit directly. The growing areas are linked together, visitors can tour in a circle to return to the starting point after finishing the tour.

Currently, Mr. Phong's garden has 1,000 grape trees and 250 apple trees with an area of 0.7 hectares and is grown in an organic direction. Since April 30, 2024, Mr. Phong has opened his garden for visitors to visit, experience and shop from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day. The garden has products such as fresh grapes and apples; grape and apple juice; dried grapes and apples; fermented grape juice. To ensure that grapes and apples have fruit all year round, Mr. Phong pruned the branches so that the fruit would come out in batches, serving visitors.

"The activities of visiting, experiencing and shopping for the garden's products have been quite positively favored by visitors. The garden especially attracts visitors on holidays and weekends. In addition, the garden also attracts visitors came to shop. On average, the garden welcomes 200 visitors per day. This is a favorable first step for the development of rural tourism in Minh Anh vineyard" - Mr. Phong excitedly said.

Allowing visitors to freely visit

Also in My Phu commune, Mr. Huynh Thanh Tam (Hamlet 4) is growing 1,300m2 of melons in a greenhouse following VietGAP guidelines. For many years now, when the harvest is near, Mr. Tam allows visitors to freely visit to shop, take photos, experience fruit picking or learn melon growing techniques.

Mr. Tam shared: “I have been growing melons since 2018. Every year, I do 4 crops, within 1-2 weeks before the harvest, I post information on my personal social networking sites to introduce and promote my family's melon products. This activity not only attracts traders and visitors but also many locals to visit. With everyone's positive reception, whether they buy melons or not, I am still happy.”

To maintain high-yield melon cultivation, Mr. Tam constantly learns and applies science and technology to production. Every day, he visits the plants and monitors their growth, treating them immediately when there are pests or diseases.

"Visitors include those who share the same passion and interest in growing plants, so I can exchange, learn, and share experiences to improve production efficiency. This also contributes to promoting the image and specialties of the locality to many people" - Mr. Tam said.

Rural tourism helps visitors not only have interesting and new experiences but also enjoy clean, environmentally friendly products. This activity gradually opens up a new direction for people in developing family economy and promoting the image, specialties and culture of Thu Thua homeland to tourists inside and outside the province./.
