The whole province of Long An currently has 265 cooperatives, including 206 agricultural cooperatives. In recent years, many cooperatives have operated effectively, contributing to improving income for people and commercial enterprises in many localities.

Director of Go Gon Agricultural Cooperative - Truong Huu Tri said: “Among 19 criteria of the National Criteria for commercial enterprises, raising income for people has always been respected by all levels, sectors and localities firstly pay attention to and consider as the key task throughout. Cooperatives are gradually asserting their position, contributing to helping people increase income and develop household economy”.

The program on constructing new-style rural in the province in recent years has shown that if the market economy is developed in the right direction, it will be a factor and a basic driving force for renewing way of thinking and improving production levels in all aspects for people; at the same time, it brings about high economic efficiency in the agricultural and rural areas, creating a foundation to promote the process of constructing new-style rural.

Clearly defining the importance of the market economy, over the past time, the continuation of innovation, development and efficiency improvement of the market economy has always received the attention of the Party committees and local authorities and the coordination of branch. According to statistics, the whole province has 265 cooperatives, including many cooperatives participating in building rural infrastructure, strongly investing, purchasing modern machines, applying advanced technology in production. The products are of good quality, many products have reached the market outside the province. Notably, Phuoc Hoa Safe Vegetable Cooperative, My Thanh Agricultural Cooperative, An Long Cooperative, Phuoc Hiep Safe Vegetable Cooperative, Tam Vu Dragon Fruit Cooperative, etc.

When it was first established, the cooperative mainly exported goods to China. Currently, after being recognized as a reputable and quality trademark, the cooperative is sought after by customers from many countries. Currently, the cooperative's products have been exported to some European markets. Once the agricultural cooperatives are operating effectively, they will contribute to local commercial enterprise development”.

In addition to cooperatives, the province also has many cooperative groups operating in the field of cultivation, animal husbandry, etc. Through their activities, the cooperative groups have helped each other to borrow money, bringing scientific and technical advances to with the people. In particular, the cooperative groups also support each other in production and consumption of products.

Although the role of market economy in constructing new-style rural confirmed, in reality, the development path of market economy in the province is still facing many difficulties and obstacles. It is awareness from all levels of committees, authorities, unions about cooperatives and developing cooperatives is still limited. In addition, due to people’s small and odd production practices, when people participate in cooperatives, most of them do not really dare in investing, contributing capital, mobilizing human resources to undertake the development process of the cooperative. Not to mention, most cooperatives are very difficult in terms of working capital, do not have much access to credit policies, lack of information on credit policy advice and no collateral. Most of the cooperatives do not have stable offices, factories, and do not have long-term lease land, which means that the cooperatives can not feel secure to invest in technology innovation, and production efficiency is not high, etc.

It needs to create momentum for developing the collective economy 

It can be seen that in the current stage of promoting the implementation of the National Target Program on constructing new-style rural, the position and role of the market economy is even more important than ever. In order for the market economy to develop quickly and sustainably in the coming years, contributing to speeding up the progress of commercial enterprise development, it is necessary to further promote the role of the Party committees and authorities in the leadership, and to direct and organize the good implementation of guidelines and policies books related to collective economy.

In addition, it is necessary to strengthen the propaganda among cadres, party members and the people about the nature and role of the market economy and the policies of the Party and State to develop and improve the effectiveness of collective economy; strengthen training and fostering to improve professional qualifications, skills, science - technology, experience in management and organization of production and business activities; have appropriate mechanisms and policies for the staff of cooperatives to meet the mission requirements in the new stage; step by step remove difficulties in mechanisms and policies related to cooperatives, such as allocating land and issuing land use right certificates to cooperatives, encouraging and supporting cooperatives to develop internal credit services, supporting cooperatives to borrow capital, considering additional guidance on implementing social insurance policies for cooperative officers, etc.
