Sources of freshwater actively ensured available for production

The commission examines cultivated areas for seeded rice in the third crop season out of the agricultural sector's recommendations

Accordingly, the commission conducted the test on these contents such as taking measurements of the salinity at sewers; water production storage levels; areas of cultivation for seeded rice in the third crop season out of the agricultural sector’s recommendations; repairs to sluice gates leaking saltwater into the interior of fields, etc.

After the examination, the commission determined on filling water for some sewers with salinity under 1 gram per liter to store freshwater for production on February 17 (the January 6 in Lunar New Year) as an outlook on rising salinity in the coming time. For the most part, the commission asked the localities which have cultivated areas of rice in the third crop season out of the sector’s recommendations to store water, especially to discourage people from sowing for the third crop season.

The Deputy Director of Long An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Nguyen Chi Thien informed: "Generally, this year, the saltwater intrusion condition didn't have considerable impacts on people's production in comparison to the dry season 2019-2020 since the agriculture industry and the localities deliberately devised practical and effective solutions with the accompanying citizens' approval of prevention of drought and saltwater intrusion. So far, the source of freshwater still adequately meets the people's demands for manufacturing. People must not keep on sowing for the third crop season; otherwise, there would be a shortage of fresh water for manufacturing./.
