At a February 22 reception in Bangkok for Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Nguyen Hai Bang, the Deputy PM appreciated joint preparations for the fourth Vietnam – Thailand Joint Cabinet meeting set for the second half of 2018.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha is due to attend the Summit of Leaders of the Greater Mekong Sub-region to be held in Hanoi in March 2018, Prawit Wongsuwan told his host.
He held that Thailand will maintain the exchange of all-level delegations and existing mechanisms such as the national defence security dialogue and the joint working group on politics-security.
The Thai Deputy PM said he hopes the two sides would continue working hand in hand to deal with illegal fishing in each other’s waters, saying Thailand stays ready to partner with Vietnam within the ASEAN framework for the sake of peace and stability in the region.
The Thai government always greatly values the Thai community of Vietnamese origin in the country, seeing them as a bridge for the enhancement of bilateral friendship and economic exchange, he said.
Ambassador Bang in turn suggested that the two nations strictly observe the principle of not allowing any individual and organisation to use one’s territory to sabotage security of the other.
He thanked the Thai government for offering favourable conditions for Vietnamese expats living in the country.
Bang also asked Thailand to conduct negotiations for the early signing of agreements on extradition and mutual judicial assistance in criminal affairs to realize important agreements reached during Vietnamese PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to Thailand in last August.
