Part 4: Towards a green development future with rich identity
Benefiting from a favourable location and a clear orientation towards sustainable, green agricultural and industrial development, the newly merged Tan Long and Thu Thua communes in Long An province are emerging as “promised lands” of growth. Meanwhile, Nhut Tao commune is set to “take off”, building on its rich historical and cultural heritage.
Tan Long Commune – A convergence of sustainable industry and agriculture

Tan Long commune was formed from the merger of 3 communes: Tan Long, Long Thanh, and Long Thuan. Spanning a natural area of 149.10 km² with a population exceeding 14,102, Tan Long is not merely an administrative unit, but a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. Its impressive scale provides ample space for major development projects, laying the foundation for a prosperous and sustainable future.
The strategic central location helps Tan Long become the new administrative headquarters with modern facilities, optimally meeting the needs of management and serving the people. This is a breakthrough decision to optimize administrative infrastructure, create favorable conditions to attract investment and serve the people, thereby improving operational efficiency and promoting comprehensive economic development.
With a diverse natural environment, Tan Long is ideally suited for both industrial and agricultural development. Key projects such as the Viet Phat Industrial Park and the Green Environmental Technology Zone are taking shape, promising to reshape the local landscape. These ventures are expected to generate thousands of jobs, raise living standards, protect the environment, and contribute to a future of sustainable development. The strong transformation in the economic structure, especially the presence of the Green Environmental Technology Park, has affirmed Tan Long's commitment to a clean and environmentally friendly industry.
The parallel development of industry and environmental protection stands out as a remarkable highlight, reflecting the locality’s long-term vision. The Green Environmental Technology Zone is not merely a project—it serves as a vivid testament to the ambition of building a clean industrial sector while minimising negative impacts on the environment. Tan Long is gradually asserting its position as an economic highlight, a place where modern values converge but still preserves the beauty and traditional identity of the Vietnamese countryside.
Thu Thua commune – A new development hub driven by clean Industry

Thu Thua Commune, a new administrative unit formed from the merger of Thu Thua town, part of Binh Thanh commune, Tan Thanh commune, and Nhi Thanh commune, is opening a new promising chapter for the land rich in tradition. With a total area of 50.45 km² and a population of 44,485, the new Thu Thua is more than just an administrative body – it embodies the region’s ambitious aspirations for growth. The merger creates a sufficiently large entity to accommodate large-scale industrial projects.
Situated in a strategic central location and home to the newly completed headquarters of the District Party Committee and People’s Committee, Thu Thua is well-connected and primed to become a key regional development hub. Transitioning from a district administrative centre to a commune-level economic engine is a highly significant step. Thủ Thừa will not only house government offices, but will also drive economic development, attract investment, and generate myriad job opportunities for residents.
The defining feature of the new Thu Thua commune is its clear orientation towards industrial development. With ample land available, the commune is poised to expand modern industrial zones, welcome investment, and develop sectors focused on clean and high-tech industries. Prioritising clean industry and advanced technology is a sustainable development strategy – one that reduces environmental impact, creates high-value employment, attracts skilled labour, and enhances the commune’s competitiveness in the broader economic landscape.
In addition, the harmonious combination of tradition and modernity has created a Thu Thua that both retains the local cultural identity and breathes innovation. While lush green fields and coconut-shaded canals continue to symbolize local pride, emerging infrastructure projects are steadily transforming the area, offering the promise of a more open environment and improved living standards. Balancing development with the preservation of the rural landscape presents a significant challenge, but also a golden opportunity to create a harmonious living environment that appeals to those seeking both convenience and green space.
Nhut Tao commune - awakening potential from historical values

Amid the steady currents of development, a new and promising land has emerged—Nhut Tao Commune—carrying with it the hopes and aspirations for meaningful transformation. More than just a geographical rearrangement, Nhut Tao represents a bridge connecting areas rich in tradition, while opening a new chapter toward sustainable development and lasting prosperity. Formed through the strategic consolidation of four former communes—Que My Thanh, Lac Tan, Tan Binh, and part of Nhi Thanh (of Thu Thua District)—Nhut Tao now spans an impressive 36.45 square kilometers and is home to a population of 30,168. This significant restructuring creates fertile ground for integrated growth across the economic, social, and cultural dimensions of the region.
The commune headquarters, located in Lac Tan, offers an ideal setting for administration and positions Nhut Tao as a vibrant centre of commerce. This strategic location is a key driver for economic activity, facilitating the flow of goods and services and powering the commune’s overall development.
What makes Nhut Tao stand out is its clear, strategic development orientation. With its locational advantage and abundant resources, the commune will focus strongly on trade, services and industry. This bold shift aims to boost comprehensive growth, create more jobs, increase income, and improve living standards. The transition from an agriculture-based economy to one centred on services and industry is a vital strategy to diversify revenue, generate higher-value employment, and raise the commune’s economic competitiveness.
Beyond economic ambition, Nhut Tao also holds profound historical and cultural value. The name of the commune reflects the heritage of the district, while also paying homage to the Vam Nhut Tao historical Site, where national hero Nguyen Trung Truc famously burned a French warship. The site includes a memorial temple, a stele house, and a model of the sunken warship, with many valuable artefacts preserved at the Long An Museum. This historical heritage holds great potential for the development of cultural and educational tourism. By integrating its historical values into tourism activities and educational programs, not only is the legacy preserved, but a distinctive tourism product is also created—one that attracts visitors seeking depth and authenticity. The historically significant name fosters a sense of community identity and serves as an enduring source of inspiration for local people as they work together to build a prosperous and vibrant homeland./.
