The National Election Committee (NEC) announced the result of the preliminary vote counting later the same day.

The Senate has 62 seats, but the vote was held for 58 seats only, as two senators will be appointed by King Norodom Sihamoni and two others by the National Assembly.

Earlier, the NEC said some 11,670 out of 11,695 voters or 99.79 percent went to the poll.

Four parties took part in the vote, including the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), the Funcinpec Party (FCP), the Cambodian Youth Party (CYP) and the Khmer National United Party (KNUP).

A total of 276 observers from 12 non-governmental organisations monitored the election.

The election’s official result is scheduled to be announced on March 3.

At the previous election held in January 2012, the CPP won 46 out of 61 seats./.
