Ceremony honours outstanding ethnic minority students
Nearly 200 outstanding ethnic minority students in 2018 were honoured at a ceremony in Hanoi on November 25, held by the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

The event featured the attendance of Truong Hoa Binh, Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister; members of the Party Central Committee (PCC): Minister-Chairman of the National Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Do Van Chien; Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha; Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, Deputy Defense Minister; President of the Vietnam Farmers' Association Thao Xuan Sung; Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children Phan Thanh Binh; and General Director of the Voice of Vietnam Nguyen The Ky.
Praising the honourees, Deputy PM Binh affirmed the Party and State’s consistent perspective on considering education and training as well as science and technology as national policies of top priority.
The development of education and training of ethnic minority and mountainous areas has always been an important policy in building the great national unity bloc and sustainable development of the country, the leader added.
Permanent Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh urged that all levels and branches, especially the Ministry of Education and Training and the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs, to raise awareness about the importance of education and training, the right to study of children, and policies for the development of the ethnic minority human resources. He asked the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Training to continue perfecting and implementing policies to improve the quality of human resources in mountainous and ethnic minority areas, improve the capacity of education management staff and teachers, organise the teaching of Ethnic Minority language; mobilise business organizations and benefactors to support and create the best conditions for the development of education and training in ethnic minority areas.
At the ceremony, the organising board honoured 166 outstanding ethnic minority students in 2018 from 35 provinces and cities. Among of them, 17 students won the national science and technology competitions in 2018; 94 students won prizes in the National Excellent Student Contest; two students were admitted to university, college, academy with a score of 27 or more; 11 ethnic minority students graduated from high school and passed university entrance exams in the academic year 2017 - 2018; 42 college graduated from universities, colleges, excellent academies./.
