Former UN chief Kofi Annan dies at 80
Multiple Ghanaian media sources have confirmed that Kofi Annan, the former Secretary-General of United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize laureate breathed his last on Saturday (August 18) at a hospital in Switzerland after short illness. He was 80.

Kofi Atta Annan is a Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1997 to December 2006. He later served as the UN special envoy for Syria, leading efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.
At the time of his tenure as Secretary-General, Annan worked to combat HIV and launched the UN Global Compact. He was awarded the Peace Prize for having revitalized the UN and for having given priority to human rights.
He was the founder and chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation.
Annan was married to Nane Maria Annan with whom he had three children./.
