International partners join hands with Vietnam to combat plastic waste

Addressing the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Le Cong Thanh, appreciated the signing of the code of conduct which was initiated by the Canadian Embassy, saying that it is a meaningful action to collaborate with the Vietnamese Government in protecting the environment and responding to climate change.

Thanh noted that to observe World Environment Day, the ministry has implemented a series of activities across the country to call on the people to reduce the use of plastic products in order to protect the earth.

Vice Chairman of Hanoi municipal People's Committee, Nguyen The Hung, said that in response to this World Environment Day, themed ‘Resolving pollution caused by plastic and nylon waste’, Hanoi has also carried out various environmental educational activities to appeal to people to join hands for a green economy and a clean and liveable city.

Hung also spoke highly of contributions by Embassies and international organisations to assisting Vietnam in protecting the environment while affirming that Hanoi pledges to create favourable conditions for international organisations to deploy environmental protection activities.

Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ping Kitnikone, said that through the signing of the code of conduct, international organisations were committed to making assessments of single-use of plastic products in their offices, encouraging their staff and partners to reduce the use of plastic products, and beginning to change their way of operations to reduce plastic waste./.
