Korean delegation survey at Lang Sen Wetland Conservation Area

A delegation including the Korea International Cooperation Agency KOICA and Korean experts recently came to Lang Sen Wetland Conservation Area in Tan Hung district, Long An province to survey the restoration and sustainable management of forests.

Also participating in the delegation were the Department of International Cooperation under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Forestry Project Management Board under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and leaders of Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Within the framework of strategic and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Korea, including fields related to sustainable development and adaptation to climate change in Vietnam, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated with relevant units to develop a project "Sustainable forest restoration and management to adapt to climate change in the Mekong Delta provinces" by the Korea International Cooperation Agency with non-refundable aid of 14 million USD, of which, the non-refundable aid capital of the Korean Government is 12 million USD, and the expected counterpart capital is 2 million USD. The project is expected to be implemented in Dong Thap, Long An and An Giang provinces from 2024 - 2028.

Within the project proposal, Lang Sen Wetland Conservation Area proposed many contents, including planting 50 hectares of new forest on wetlands; planting in existing forests with low tree density, gaps in the forest, poor quality forest improvement with a total area of 92 hectares.

Based on these proposals, a group led by Director of the Global Forest Carbon Center (Korea Forestry Promotion Institute), Head of the expert delegation - Jun Jae Hong and a number of members reviewed on-site the analysis results with proposed locations for afforestation; conducted a field survey to install infrastructure to protect and manage flooded forests and listen to representatives of Lang Sen Wetland Conservation Area's detailed proposals on restoring wetland ecosystems and forestry infrastructure.

Another group led by Deputy Director of KOICA Vietnam - Yoo Soo Yeon and a number of members met and discussed with people in the buffer zone and neighboring areas about economic development activities in recent years, proposed support for the people.

After surveying in Tan Hung district, the Korean delegation continued to survey other forested localities in Long An province./.
