Long An aims to maintain over 6,600 hectares of shrimp in 2019

On April 5, Long An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a conference to sum up the management of water-brackish shrimp in 2018 and implement the plan for 2019.

According to the of the Division of Livestock, Veterinary and Fisheries, the situation of feeding water-brackish shrimp in the province over the past year was favorable and achieved many positive results.

Specifically, the total shrimp area of the province is 7,046.6 hectares, reaching 106.7 percent of the plan and up 9.8 percent over the same period; in which, the area of  black tiger shrimp is 761.7 hectares and that of white-leg shrimp is 6,284.9 hectares.

The harvested shrimp output is 13,992.98 tons, reaching 121.7 percent of the plan and up 15.9 percent over the same period; in which, black tiger shrimp is 1,160 tons and white-leg shrimp is 12,832.98 tons.

Besides, the total area of damaged shrimp in the province is 748.2 hectares, accounting for 10.6 percent of the farming area, down 1.8 percent compared to the same period.

In order to produce the water-brackish shrimp crop 2019 effectively, representatives of the Division of Agriculture and Rural Development in 4 low-land districts (Can Duoc, Can Giuoc, Chau Thanh and Tan Tru) presented the advantages and disadvantages in managing the water-brackish shrimp production in the localities at the conference; they discuss, contribute ideas, develop plans to maintain, promote positive aspects and find solutions to overcome difficulties.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Dinh Thi Phuong Khanh acknowledged and highly appreciated the results, she also asked the agencies, sectors and professional branches to continue to strengthen the inspection and supervision of quality of breeds and production materials; pay attention to training and transfer science and technology, encourage farmers to apply hi-tech to production to improve productivity and quality.

In 2019, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development aims to maintain an area of over 6,600 hectares, with an output of over 11,500 tons; implement 18 times of water environment monitoring for shrimp farming; quarantine shrimp seed to reach over 80 percent compared to the feeding area./.
