Long An focuses on preventing and controlling forest fire

There are more than 24,000 hectares of forest in Long An province. Most of the forest area is mainly melaleuca forest, together with weeds, located in the districts of Dong Thap Muoi area. Therefore, there might be a very high possibility for forest fire, especially in the dry season.

Facing the above situation, the province focused on directing the solutions drastically and synchronously to effectively implement forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting which is determined as one of the key tasks during the dry season, ensuring the minimum number of cases and damages caused by forest fires.

According to the Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department - Do Van La and the forecast of the Central Hydrometeorological Forecast Center, the weather in dry season of 2019 is very complicated. Abnormal weather, large-scale and long-lasting drought will lead to a higher risk of forest fires.

Therefore, the province has implemented many measures to prevent and fight forest fires since the beginning of the year until now. Simultaneously, the department strengthens regular and irregular inspections in localities and forest owners on forest fire safety and fighting. Coordinating agencies directly under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; sectors and units of the Public Security, Defense and Border Guard implement forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting effectively .

Localities with forests organize forces to directly protect forests, prevent and fight forest fires under the motto "4-thing-to-do at the site", which ensures that forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting are implemented effectively and practises regulations, rules, safety conditions, measures to prevent and fight forest fires properly.

The Steering Committee of the Target Program for Sustainable Forestry Development is strengthened and coordinated to organize the inspection team for forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting of forest owners during the dry season, they regularly checking forest  owners in implementing the solution of forest protection and forest fire prevention, such as building dikes to keep water, building fire-resistant roads, reducing the inflammable materials in the forest, etc. Forest fire prevention and fighting measures according to the project level Forest fire alarms including 5 levels, from level 1 to level 5, which are strictly implemented./.
