National Highway N1 plays an important role in socio-economic development, cultural exchanges, security and defense in border areas in particular and the Mekong Delta with Cambodia in general.

The road contributes to reducing vehicles on National Highway N2 (Ho Chi Minh Road). Therefore, the construction of the road, especially the section passing through Long An province, is necessary, said the Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - Tran Van Can.

The scale of the project meets plain standard of level IV. This was approved by the Ministry of Transport in Decision No.922/QĐ-BGTVT dated on April 19, 2009 and Decision No.235/QĐ-BGTVT dated on February 11, 2011.

However, according to Resolution No.11/NQ-CP of the Government, the Ministry of Transport has stopped implementation. Until now, capital has not been allowed.

Accordingly, Long An Provincial People's Committee proposes to approve the investment policy in the period of 2019 - 2020 and allocate central budget capital in the period of 2021-2025 to carry out this route./.
